As the title say, anyone know about the coopers? I see plenty on the KO2s and there is 100 dollar difference. I don't care about road noise I am more concerned about off road capabilities, I like to haul ass up and down the mountains pot holes snow mud.

I am leaning towards the KO2s

    265/75r16

Smart ass answers are welcome as long as they have an answer.

Check out the expedition portal off road tire review. The AT3 performed near the top of every category including both the on road and off road tests. Granted, the KO2 wasn't part of the test but the predecessor KO was and it was expected to be a front-runner especially in the off road tests.

Cooper is a great tire, where as the BFG KO2 has great marketing. The BFG's are marginal off road, on road wet, and pack up like slicks in mud. Ive ran them, and am running them, and they are nowhere as good as the Coopers.

KO2 will be a tougher, much stronger tire but the AT3 will be cheaper and have better road manners/wet handling. I have had the KO's and the Cooper ATw so both are close but not exactly what you're looking at. Both were 10 ply. That's my personal experience with these brands. The BFG's felt bullet proof compared to the Coopers. Neither are shit-hot in mud.

2 totally different tires though. I would compare the KO2's with the Cooper ST/MAXX. I had AT3's and they are not an aggressive tire like the KO2's and ST/MAXX's.

    I'm out. I was thinking of the ATP/ATZ....I haven't run the AT3's.

Anyone bought the AT3 in the 285/70r17 in the 4 ply (p metric)?

Edit: Well, I guess I'll be the Guinea Pig. Bought them this morning.

The bfgs seem to be kinda soft, they performed better than my hankooks off road on dirt and mud but not as good on the road. Also it looks like I am chewing up the outsides of the front tires not on the inside of the tire any thoughts?

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
I would go with the AT3. If you want something more purposed for off highway driving then the ST Maxx. Check out the AT3 review on expedition portal. It's probably plenty of tire for most people out there.

Get the load range C (6 ply) if you want some peace of mind on those mountain road pot holes.

I thought about it but the 285s aren't available in a c load so I would have gone for 275s. The shop would have to order those and I got a price match on the 285s so I just went for it.

I thought about it like this: these are still rated at or higher than the stock rugged trails and I've put 55,000 on those with no issues. I guess I get to be the test of whether a 4 ply tire is enough for my combined on road/off road use. I'll tell you though, the weight savings is sure nice.

Don't do it!!!! I had them for a month and hated every day I had them. Well at least in the snow. I kept getting stuck every place I went with the at3. I had Michelin ltx ms and never had a problem. Then one day with the at3 I went around a corner that I had taken thousands of times with my m/s and spun out and just about totaled my truck.
    But just my 2cent

Fortunately, I'm a sand dweller but I will keep that in mind for ski trips.

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
My truck came with a new set of AT3 265/75 16. Wasn't excited about it but after +20K mi i am more than satisfied. A couple MN winters, my old driveway was heavy clay, a few +2k mi road trips, no much rock crawling to do around here, great on gravel roads, don't toss rocks unless your hammering it. I think they are an all around +A.

Slow down for corners earlier, or use more throttle to get the rear to come around, you are understeering. assuming thats not an alignment issue

I don't think it is the alignment just had it done a long with belts the tires of course and went up the mountain. There is a 10 mile stretch that I time myself on, my average speed I added 5mph and shaved 30 seconds off my time. So now you know my application do you think they could be under pressured? I race in the cmra in Texas and that is the sign on our tires when we are under pressured and cooking it in the turns with under pressured tires. I know this is apples to oranges motorcycle race slicks compared to off road tires, just a though. Ill get the truck checked out to see if the alignment is off. Thank you for the advise any more is appreciated as well
