It's CA so any compliant where no money traded hands (assuming he used Toyotacare) it would just be round filed. The 20k service doesn't include checking transmission or diff fluid levels. So what's left some tires that need to be rotated?

"inspect and fill the differential, transfer case, and transmission fluids"

How much did they charge for this extensive service?

NOW if you asked to have them CHANGE said lubes, and they didn't, and CHARGED YOU, well I would be on a murderous rampage.

Don't want to derail the thread, but this happened years ago on a car, it was always a permanent discrepancy on the Carfax.

Why would they pull the drain plugs if you asked them to inspect and fill (If needed).

They may have assumed that because they were painted that they were already inspected and good to go.

Do you know how to inspect the transfer case and transmission, yourself? I asked because they are a closed system, they shouldn’t need inspecting or filled unless you are having a problem.

If the dealer didn’t charge you or write up as a warranty order then what’s the problem?

It says check and fill all fluids. Oils are fluids. And I personally asked for these fluids to be checked, so I'd have records of it being done. I had suspicions that the work wasn't being done, That's why I marked the bolts, and I didn't try to hide the fact, I flat out told them I did it and was going to check their work. And still they didn't do it.
BUT! they did 1 thing I asked, the flipped the spare tire over to make it easier to check the air pressure.
Think of how many times they got away with doing this (or not doing) to non educated customers who think their cars are correctly serviced by this stealership.
    There's the outrage.

This is why I made a call to Toyota Canada after the dealership did nothing on my first service. The point of the service is to inspect and make sure there is no glaring issue that could affect safety and reliability. When they don't remove the wheels and still come up with brake measurements is unprofessional. New vehicles can have major issues, nothing is perfect. That is why I do my own inspection and service work now. I know it's done.

Actually, oils are not fluids, fluids are things like washer fluid, radiator fluid, etc. Oils have specific line items for when they are performed, Inspect Oil, replace oil, etc

Just another uneducated customer, who thinks the dealer ripped him off.

Post a pic of the service write-up.

    This does sound pretty crappy.

I'd definitely notify both corporate and the dealer manager. Send them your pics (while they mean much from a legal perspective, they at least show that you're serious). As others have said, it's possible the techs were bypassing your requests and just following the service schedule, but regardless, they should have noted that on the paperwork.

    No leak, no check.

Do your own services if you want these things checked every service.

That service pays 0.6-0.8 and you want the tech to get the trans to check temp, disturb front to rear drive line gaskets just because you think they may be low.

Transmission "fluid"..... its kinda in the name.
I am not taking op's side on this.... I know what happened and they did the cursory 20k mile check and sent him on his way. You want toyota to actually do anything, its gonna cost ya.

They gave me free handys for life. There's a hobo who hangs around behind the shop, name's three-fingered Mike. Ask for him, he'll hook you up.
