Ok I think I see the critical flaw in all of this OP... you should have probably made it very clear that you were going to pay out of pocket to have these extra services done (and even then I think there still would have been a high likelihood of them ignoring it because a lot of these places are saturated with work anyways). When you call to make an appointment for service, I think they usually assign a time slot length based on the amount of work to be performed... if you said 20k service, they probably allotted just enough for the basic 20k service, nothing more.

So what likely happened was they thought you were asking to have the extra services done under the free Toyotacare, which isn't going to happen. They're going to do whatever is minimum defined in the service schedule.

I mean, it's in the write up, it should have been done.

However, there is a reason that the transmission is sealed, and why there is no "inspect" or "replace" line item for the transmission, except the manual trans.

But I guess if the Op wanted it done they should have done it and charged him for it.

    In a perfect world

My guess is the service writer was an idiot and the mechanic assigned to do the work was like "Uhh, I only have 1 hour to do all of this before the next car? Nope.." *box checked* *box checked* *box checked*

And for all of you that say well it was free....No it wasn't free, I bought the truck from them, The truck wasn't free. This all came with the truck. A 2018 TRDOR
If you choose not to use it...OK
When I scheduled the appointment I did ask them to do these things, extra or not, I wanted it done. They wrote this on the invoice as to be done. They had the truck for over 5 hours. They said they did these things, They didn't do these things. That's dishonest service. Free or not
I flat out told them I painted the bolts, I told them I was going to check their work, and they still tried to sneak it by me. I was never angry, just surprised after all that, they still tried to screw me. I just called them out on it. The dealer has already called me trying to kiss my ass, but oh well!
If you don't like the way it was handled...Go FK yourselves. I just posted about a dishonest dealer. I showed you the invoice that says I asked for these things.

    1) Just because you demand things be done under "free" service doesn't mean they are obligated to do them though... If I went in and asked them to check the torque on every nut and bolt on the vehicle and inspect the wiring, would they do that? Where do they draw the line on "free" work?

    2) Not saying this happened in your case, but when you specifically tell them you did things to check their work, that's basically insulting them. It's like telling the chef of a fancy restaurant you brought a meat thermometer and will be checking his steak... don't be surprised if the steak comes with an extra cream sauce on it!

That said, I think Toyota should not have put it on the receipt that the work was performed. At the very least, it's misleading. If you paid for it out of pocket, then there would be a real problem.

I've got two Tacomas with 24 years and 431,000 miles between them and have never taken either one back to a dealer. There's a reason for that.

Toyota won’t do anything. The dealer will say they did and you’ll say they didn’t. They’ll shrug their shoulders and facilitate you bringing your truck to a different dealer. Just bash them on their reviews and in social media like everyone else does.

    Cool dealer placard
A few years ago, I had a coupon for a $20.00sumtin oil change from SLO Toyota. My wife worked in SLO at the time so I had her take my truck in (I was being lazy so I went for the oil change) Next day see an oil spot on the driveway underneath my truck. (Truck never leaked) So I start checking things and find the drain plug is hand tight, WTH! Now I'm curious what else these idiots might have done / said they did. I look at the service receipt, 37 point inspection, Blah, blah, blah. I see they noted I needed a new air filter, problem is I replaced it the week prior! Further reading, I see that they checked my windshield and it was good, well, said windshield had a crack across the bottom and several rock chips. I am not surprised but saddened that SLO Toyota hasn't got their shit in one boot yet. I did tell this all to the Service Manager, guess he didn't listen or doesn't give two squirts of duck shit that his idiots are still pen whipping their idiot proof check off sheets!

God bless you OP, but how much time did you spend crawling around and painting plugs on your truck just so you could say "Gotcha" and post a horror story on the internet?

    You're "that guy."

Life is too short, my friend.

Inspect and fill though. Different instruction than flush or drain/fill?

Also what did they charge you for ? An "inspection or fill?"

The invoice says "inspect fluid levels." Duke tell me how you do that without opening the transmission reservoir or differential reservoir and I owe you a beer!!!

And everyone else not on Tacoma World could give a darn, yet the world keeps turning.

Honestly, if I had been the service manager and the OP had approached me saying he was going to "check" my "work" I'd have either told him to find another service department OR I'd have done what they did and ignore everything.

There's three types of people in this world: people who are situationally difficult, people who are strategically difficult, and then there are people who are just difficult.

It's from the days of dip sticks. You show me how to check a transmission in 40 minutes with oil change and tire rotation day in day out and I'll owe you a beer!

No leak means level is fine.

My biggest concern is did they "inspect wiper blades"?????
