Kinda blows me away how some folks are busting the OP's balls, like they are condoning piss poor workmanship. Sure blame it on some poor sap making $10.00 an hour. No excuse, you do every job like it is the most important job there is. How's little Johnny ever gonna learn work ethic? OK, off my High Horse.

Almost posted the same thing. While it's strange that the OP approached the Service writer in a hostile way it doesn't condone being dishonest about the work. If I had been the SW I probably would have told the OP it would cost xxx to do those checks if they weren't paid by the warranty.

I wrenched for 20yrs and trust no one's work but my own. I've always checked things after being done at dealerships and tire shops and have found loose lug nuts, oil filters, an unplugged coil pack etc.

This thread has pretty much made up my mind that I don't want to be associated with any other 3rd gen owners. I shall sell my truck right away and either

    A. Buy a WRX and take up vaping
    B. Buy a Ridgeline and take up houseplants
    C. Buy Ranger and troll 3rd gen forums

Anything would be more manly than your typical 3rd gen beta male complaints these days.

This likely could have been handled in private between the dealer and the OP, but putting someone on blast is just the way it is.

Welcome to the world of flat rate techs. No leak, no check, besides someone will bitch about not getting new crush washers

You really need to pull Webster's dictionary and look up word "complimentary".

OP asked dealership to do a thing.

Dealership says they did the thing.

Dealership clearly didn't do the thing.

    TW defends the dealership??
Dumbgeon monsters strike again, I guess.

At least your oil pan isn't empty, OP.

This is far from fraud or dishonesty. Incompetent I can see but dishonest, no.

No AG or consumer affairs office will give a rat's ass about this.

All new vehicle owners are like this, but tacoma owners tend to be more focused.

I don't think i've ever seen Rachel climb under her RAV4 to check if her torque seal that she applied earlier in the day was disturbed. I mean one could stick their head on a cows ass, but it's just easier to take the butcher's word for it. Somehow her RAV4 delivers years of trouble free motoring.

At the fire station we hide nickles on our fire engine to make sure the new guy is actually looking in the compartments and checking the equipment. I've caught guys half-assing. I get it.

I also, while working at a pharmacy while in high school, watched a guy dump out his pill bottle on the counter in front of me and double count every single pill to make sure we did our job correctly.

There is a point where the expectation of quality becomes a form of insanity. "Everything must be perfect because I said so." Where the line is depends on the situation but I think we all must stop sometimes and ask ourselves "okay am I just being a jerk?"

If the OP had a reasonable suspicion that work he was paying for wasn't being done (like they didn't actually change the oil or rotate the tires) I understand and sympathize with him. But to set a trap before you walk into a place of business, request a bunch of things be checked, then tell them you WILL check their work, then drag them through the mud on the internet... C'mon bro! This is the most perverted form of gluttony if I've ever seen one.

Should have just checked the stuff yourself while you were under there finding and painting your plugs.

Transmission shouldn’t be opened in the first place as it’s sealed. If anything I’m surprised they didn’t try to dissuade him from the request, however the transmission does have the ability to inspect fill level without removing the drain plug.

The differentials have a fill plug and drain plug. I don’t see a picture of the front diff so I assume the OP doesn’t know where it is, however the diffs aren’t actually full, they have a sump. Likewise the transfer case has an upper and lower sump that cant be inspected.
