The fluids they inspect are coolant, brake and power steering. No one going to check you trans or diff fluid for free.

    Cool dealer placard
Re-read his post, where does it say he wanted it for free, lol He did say he thought he might have been a jerk, lol. He did state that they said they did the service he asked for but he proved that to be false, lol. Don't know why I keep LOLing after each sentence, just following your lead.......

Well he didn't pay for anything. Op stated his truck wasn't free, I feel like he was excepting all of this to be done for free. Dealership is a flatrate world, no pay ->no work.

It's called "attention to detail". As a former flyer, I rested my life on the wrench turners doing their jobs correctly. One bolt or nut left undone or loose in the jet (FOD) could mean 30+ dead. It's the kind of shit they beat into you in your first week of boot camp.

I know not checking diff oil in a Tacoma isn't nearly on the same level, but the fact remains the dealership claimed to check but the proof is that they didn't. There is clear dishonesty with that, which can then be extended to other aspects of their service. While this may be small potatoes to you (especially since you aren't even a patron of this dealership), it clearly isn't to the OP and and publicly providing this experience for other potential customers' education is perfectly legitimate, just as with the oil loss thread. Nothing OP asked was unreasonable or couldn't be directly addressed by the service manager at the time of the request or during the stated 5 hours of service when they had possession of the vehicle. Plenty of people do things like mark their tires before having them rotated, this isn't "setting a trap". OP fully let them know what he did. How you can excuse false service is beyond me.

I've checked off a local dealership due to lying about a bolt in the tire (which never materialized) in an attempt to up-sell me new tires.
Some of us have higher standards.

Im not taking up for you or the dealer. Personally the dealer should have done what they said despite having to deal with someone like you. Personally though I’d consider talking to people like they’re a friend. You come to my place of business with a typed letter telling me what to do, I would do it but you’d be remembered big time. Anything outside of the contract of free service you’d pay top dollar for it or go elsewhere. Also if you ever made a mistake and needed my help it probably wouldn’t go in your favor!

Anyway don’t be a jerk to people as people do make mistakes despite whatever that paper says. In the end is your truck running well? Since you’re so worried about putting them through the ringer for not checking something, crawl under your truck and check it yourself. Might be in good enough shape to drive again! I do know if I was that worried though about something being low on fluids in such a new truck I wouldn’t trust anyone even if the ‘nail polish’ was cracked. The initial check would be thoroughly done by the most trusted person I know - myself! After ensuring everything was good I’d never worry again unless there were fluid spots visible somewhere on or under the truck.

Anyway be kind. Most normal folks won’t like you if you’re always this way.

More like they follow a checklist and have an NCO perform a check to ensure they followed the checklist and then a QA ensures that the checklist was followed. So really you just have 3 people checking to see if a bolt was torqued to spec according to the checklist a 5 year old could follow.

Easy cowboy - not all of us are “typical” 3rd gen owners.

2.7 5spd here - won’t find one of “those” guys driving one of these.

I get it, But! (There is always a but), they said they did work they did not do! I have prior experience with this service department doing the exact same thing. Mine were minor, but still someone put pen to paper saying they did something they did not do, total BS! OP could have been a total A$$hole when he came in and the service Manager MIGHT have said F this dude...............BUT (theres that word again), now SLO Toyota is getting a bad rap. My wife brought my truck in, so ya can't blame it on me for being an A$$hole.

Checklist is still followed and signed off on the forms. Lying on MX forms would lead to discipline. I had to check and sign off on 781s at the end of my preflight. Guys have been busted for skimming them. I'm sure you've heard of the Golden Nut?

My point is that it's not really attention to detail. There are 3 people doing 1 job. In the "real" world companies can't afford to have 3 people do 1 job.

And a billion people in India still don't care.

I've communicated my opinion. Take it for what you will, then zip your pants back up. I'm not going to have a measuring contest with you.

All I saw on the invoice was toyotacare check fluid level adjust if necessary. You do realize that checking trans diff fluids is not part of the service. Now if the op wants to pay additional 1.5 hr to the tech, thats a different story.

If the tech or RO had stated that they checked the transmission or the differential fluids, then I could see the dealership being in the wrong.

Respectfully disagree, but we're just quibbling over semantics at this point.

Apologies if I came off too adversarial. My intent was to contextualize my stance.

Any job that requires a basic checklist and two other people to sign off, does not require a whole lot of attention to detail. Let's be real, MX is one of the most basic jobs in the USAF, grunt level (sorry POGs). Nothing in the military is complex, it's rather boring.

Now if you want to talk about wiriting 1000s of lines of code YAML, where a misplaced space could bring an entire program to the ground, then I would agree, that's attention to detail.

I think our definition of detail are two different things.
