The dealer should have done a better job of communicating what was actually involved and what was actually done. OP should have read his manual to better expect what the service entailed. It seems like both parties had a weird interpretation of what the expectations were for the other.

Youre supposed to measure length not width! :)

You gotta measure starting from the back side. I'd show you but that's kinda "hard" on the internet.

Ok, please don't take this as condescending, but FOD dangers (among many other aspects) are huge for the flying side. This includes things like misplaced bolts and tools. The jet I flew on (E-3) was operated with *cables*, not electronic fly-by-wire. Just as you said a misplaced space (or open parenthetical ;) can take down an entire program, so too could a single misplaced bolt get rocketed into a critical flight control cable and bring the jet to the ground. Hence, the importance of attention to detail for MX. I mentioned the "Golden Nut" which, much like OP, was a 'trap' set by leadership with a hidden gold-painted nut for a maintainer to find to get a fat bullet point on their EPR. THIS is the 'attention to detail' we're talking about. Does that make sense?

EDIT: I should add, my own preflight checklist involved touching every. single. rivet. of my equipment to make sure they were present and secure. It may seem trivial on the surface, please believe me it wasn't just your normal busywork.

And I'd argue that Services is the most basic AFSC lol

Dude we did FOD walks on a regular basis, 99% of the time everyone was just BSing and walking along. It was more of a social event that anything. The "Golden Nut" is common, NCO's would put tabs on dip sticks of vehicles to make sure people checked them. What happened was, people would just pull the tab and not check it anyway..

I get your point but your grossly sensationalizing things.

We are both USAF, you aren't going to BS me on these things, I think you are giving everyone a bit too much credit.

The standards must have been REALLY low if a Golden Nut made it on an EPR.

This has moved far beyond my original intent.
I assure you I am not bullshitting. I've done FOD walks too. I had flightline driving license and would pull rocks from the treds befor crossing the line. This shit was drilled into us at every level. Yes we still had fuck ups but they were handled.

I'm just going to have to chalk our disagreement up to different bases, units, and cultures. Best of luck to you.

Must have been a different era, and I'm guessing never deployed. You should have seen the fields planes were landing in.

Equador for CDOs, yes it was nice, lots of alcohol. As I said, I flew on the E3. Also the E3 was based out of Al Dhafra AB for SWA. To be honest I don't appreciate the hostile tone when I am not to coming at you personally at all, so I am done. Good night.

Al Dahra was a a nice base, I don't expect them to put an E3 on a FOB anytime soon and I'm not hostile, I'm just direct. Can thank the USAF for that ;) If something doesn't sound right, I'm going to poke it.

This guy needs a g.f. or a full time job.

I'm pretty sure this isn't a military debate website.
