Just reading your latest reply - it is probably nothing. Just a light brake drag.

I'd probably do everything I mentioned because I'm a bit OCD, but again, that's just me.

If you aren't comfortable doing the above, weigh my suggestion against the possibility of breaking something and the reality of spending one of our few remaining summer afternoons wrenching on your truck.

If it bothers you that much, then put new brake calipers on the truck.

Fwiw when I got new pads on mine they didn't fit...I had to tap it in. Of course they dragged and rotor got hot, so I took em back out. I'm had been thinking of getting new calipers and when I put in the new calipers from Autozone, the pads fit perfectly. Same thing happened with my 4runner. I started thinking the spec changed. YMMV

Quick note to future readers, don't assume brake dragging is normal. Check temps with a laser. Mine were nearly 500 degrees and the other side was 170. Somewhere in there is a normal range. But wheel should never feel hot or sizzle when wet.

You may have newer calipers. Mine were from 2005.

What if it did smell like a bad clutch? What would be your suggestion? I've been going through a similar problem. Thanks.

Check the brakes, they could be sticking and getting too hot. Look for big differences in pad wear side to side. That would indicate a sticking caliper or something not clamping evenly
