How many hundreds of thousands of diesel turbo charged trucks are out there? Must be some thing to it.

I had an 86 4Runner with the 22RTE for a long time. Sold it at 350k miles. The turbo housing had been cracked for a while, I told myself I'd replace it when it finally died or do a 5VZ-FE swap. It never died. I was also religious about doing cool downs. Kind of a pain in the ass.

If I read this correctly, you're saying there's a diesel conversion already in the works?

Nope just pointing out that turbos are quite reliable.

Absolutely. All you have to do is run the tank dry of gas and top back up with diesel. The turbo takes care of the rest.

It's readily visible from the under-body shots released so far. The 4th gen fuel tank has an outgrowth toward the rear, so it sits a few inches below the axle tube. Meanwhile the 2nd/3rd gen fuel tank remains at the same height through its entire length and sits above the axle tube:

I went from V8s to V6s. Next to 4cyl, and after that electric. I can't stop 'progress'.

Wait until they make it so you can’t get one without a hybrid drive, the reason I won’t be buying the new land cruiser 250.

Edit: my sarcasm detector is not working well due to the cold... thanks for the clarification a few posts below @RichochetRabbit

Quote the threads where they say to use S3. I am almost certain they recommended S4 as the torque converter is locked and S4 keeps you out of the overdrive gears when towing. S3 the converter is unlocked and I'm almost certain they never recommended cruising in S3. I chill in a lot of the same threads they do in the towing forum.

And S4 is not only a good idea when towing in these Tacos, the vehicle will do it all day without issues sitting at 3K RPM and 70 MPH with stock gears. Towing in overdrive is a no-no as the heat buildup in the converter will roast your trans fluid and grenade your transmission. Those who tow, know... my bro.

I will clarify only for the benefit of the rest of the TW members ... IT WAS A JOKE!

@Squirt and @Rock Lobster normally give good advice, and I was just building on the statement that the person made about the truck being unable to exceed 60 MPH.

Stateside, people throw "Hilux" around like walks on water. It does not, it's more of Ridgeline than any of the midsized trucks

It’s legit body on frame, has a diesel option, and you can buy it with a flatbed body without blowing $20,000 for a bespoke handmade custom.

Unfortunately it has been poisoned by the hybrid cancer.

    Grass is greener syndrome.

The one pickup that isn't available in the one country that eats, breathes, shits, and idolizes pickups, and is also the one that Jeremy Clarkson made a joke about it's invincibility. Everyone wants one because they were told they can't have one. It's like that one kid you know who wasn't allowed to have sodas. He's diabetic and missing a toe now.

Go overseas and rent one, and the "meh" reality check sets in real fast.

exactly, this is why so many over here pitch a tent in their pants for a deeezzzulll, even though the costs are astronomical,,, to the point of comical.
