Be careful of going down the path of making your own bumper. Before you know it you'll have a garage full of metal working tools and a bumper that will be oddly satisfying to you. I went down that path when I wanted a bumper for my Jeep. I didn't like anything on the market and for what they wanted I could buy a welder and a bunch of other tools and make my own. I highly recommend it.
