I posted a pic of this in another thread, but just walked out and took a video of it, but it's like the paint under my driver's side front door is just dissolving. Here's the video I took <removed due to the thread being pretty much over>

The dealership took pics and sent it to Toyota, so we'll see what they say.

Maybe not dissolving, but certainly not adhering to the primer. Probably prep-related.

Well, dissolving was what the woman at the dealerships said when I told her it looked like an adhesion problem after she suggested that maybe I ran over something. Then, she said maybe something was spilled on it, but we'd see what Toyota says.

Painter here looks like something got on paint and lifted paint film and rocker texture. Definitely adhesion issue going on.

It’s interesting that’s it’s only occurring at the lowest points for water to run-off. Not saying OP is wrong but do you do any off-roading in saltwater/murkish areas?

No, I live near Augusta, GA, and it's never been near saltwater nor an area where they salt the roads. It's only been off-road once and it was kind of muddy through there, but that was a while back.

It's only under that one door, too, as far as I know. Nothing visible anywhere else, at least.

I'm going with ran over something in the roadway. It look like some sort of chemical attack like brake fluid, paint remover

My complaint with the white paint is it seems really thin.... A thin application.

I’ve heard the same complaint from Camry owners who have white paint too.

Maybe some chemical. I didn't notice anything. Funny thing to me if it is a chemical is that the n-fab step and the bottom edge of the door are fine. I have the stiff plastic mudguards, too, and I don't see and discoloration or anything on them.

Only thing I saw in the bottom edge of the door, itself, was paint that had come off the rocker panel. The rocker panels have always had a texture to them and the truck has the paint protection film installed.

The damaged paint feels greasy, if that means anything.

I have a white 2020 4runner and have a spot where the paint literally flaked off to bare metal

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
If it's just on the sill under the door and NOT on the bottom edge of the door as well, then I'd rule out this possibility.

If it was fresh paint like right out of the booth I could see this happening if there was an adhesion or contaminate problem.

Years after the fact i'd think the paint would start checking and flaking off vs. what we're seeing here. The pattern failure for super white is flaking paint down to the e-coat. I don't think this is a problem that's unique to Toyota, because i've seen Ford Oxford white do the same thing in high wear areas

I'm certainly open to it being something from the road, but I just don't see how anything that would eat through the paint like that wouldn't have done a number on the plastic mudguard or the paint on the side-step.

Paint striper type chemicals won’t necessarily harm plastic. I used paint stripper to remove the paint on the Plastic rocker panel covers on my old Isuzu trooper and the paint just fell off when I sprayed it with a water hose 30mins after applying the chemical. Plastic was in perfect condition and I just sanded and repainted. Like others mentioned, that looks exactly like the paint I sprayed the stripper on. Good luck getting the issue resolved.
