You can see that it is coming out of the hole in the bottom of the door . What is in that door IDK . Was there ever any grease , oil or anything on the window after it went down and up that you had to clean off ?

Your guess is as good as mine. I never noticed anything. I never had to clean anything off, that's one of the few things I'm sure about.

Well, no big surprise, but Toyota denied warranty coverage. Of course, I've been waiting to hear from somebody, but finally broke down and called and the service manager told me they denied it pretty much right away.

Sucks, but I get it. I can't prove a negative. I've never sprayed anything in the locks to unfreeze or lubricate them, I certainly haven't ever had brake fluid in it, much less near the rocker panel, and I haven't used anything to wash acid rain off the door glass like the service manager suggested today.

If it was chemicals, then I'll go to my grave believing it was something the service tech did when my clutch pedal was replaced.

    Pull the door panel.

It's very easy to do, and you will see what's going on.

Any chance you ran over a can of brake cleaner or something on a road? Or does it look like it’s originating from inside the truck. Hopefully insurance can step in if it isn’t looking like a manufacterer issue.

It's like it came through the door. As Sand_In_My_Taco said, I need to pop the door panel. It's kind of crazy that there's no damage to the external door panel at all given that whatever it is would have had to have drained through the window.

Back side of the door skin might be damaged, fortunately it's nothing another chemical and a rattle can cannot fix, and that no one would see.

Order some sound deadening mats + foam cells while your at it :)

Hahaha - this is getting like the safe on Reddit. Since Toyota isn't going to do anything for me, I have no excuse to not take a look in there. I was a bit hesitant to touch anything before.

Are you going to repaint out of pocket, or just rock it like that

I'm going to get it fixed. I'm going to get some quotes, but it'll probably be high enough that I'll need to file a claim with my insurance. That still counts as coming out of pocket in the end, though.

Yeah man get it painted don't want to have exposed metal,, espacially if you're in the rust belt,, Yeah I have a 2019 as well, I buffed out a tiny scratch but I also buffed into my paint in the process have a small 1x1 blemish,it bother me I got quoted $750 to re clear coat my door,my deductible is 1,000 and most likely the rate will go up so idk if I should just live with the blemish or pay the $750.

Lovely! Toyota says they won't do anything and my insurance company says the same, so I get to come completely out of pocket for this.

Tell them your changing insurance. They will make more money off you over the ownership of the truck than they stand to lose by repainting a rocker panel..

If your interested, I bet you can find a rhino liner dealer that would rhino line the bottom 6 inches of the truck in white liner that would blend in, and provide 100% more protection than whats on there.

I second saying you'll change insurance.

I bashed my truck up in the desert of my own volition, and my insurance covered the repairs after deductible....no questions asked other than getting my story down straight.

I spoke with a person at corporate last week and they agreed it would be covered since, if it's not a manufacturer defect, then it's from driving over something or something like that. Before proceeding with the claim, though, I went ahead and took it to a local body shop I've had good service from in the past. They pointed out that the damage is all in the rock guard and that it stops at the line. Their thinking is that Toyota didn't let the rock guard application sufficiently cure before spraying the top coat and a chemical did a number on that or somebody tore it with a shoe getting in or out. The shoe idea wouldn't have been me as I'm tall enough that I just step in, but I guess it could have been one of the short people at the dealership who drove my truck and moved the seat damn near to the steering wheel. Obviously, it's all guessing and Toyota isn't going to do anything, anyway.

I went ahead and dropped my Tacoma off at the body shop today. They are redoing the rock guard from the front wheel well to the back of the cab on the driver's side. They quoted me just over $1,000 and my deductible is $500, so I'm just skipping insurance.

Is the truck still under the 3/36 warranty ? If it is I would take that info to Toyota and see what they say . That diagnosis sounds right to me especially since nothing was in the door .

It's still under warranty being a 2019 with just over 20k miles on it, but the dealership took pictures and sent them to Toyota and Toyota denied coverage. They are holding steady at it being chemical damage of some sort and not a manufacturing defect. Somebody in the Super White Paint Peel thread said he had the same sort of damage with the same response from Toyota. If it is a manufacturing defect, all I can do as far as Toyota is concerned is get them to document it in the hopes they eventually see it enough.
