It was an intentional effort. Windless day, cruise control, kept it 45-50mph, and few slow downs/speed ups.

    Here I got 99.9mpg... :)

Mine often starts at 344. One time I ran the truck to 417 miles and the fill up took 19 gallons. SO I IGNORE the dash calculator.

Ignore it. My 2018 Tacoma would show 300-320 miles to empty before I got my fuel pump replaced. Now it shows 290-300 miles to empty when I fill up. I just did 275 miles on a trip and had a bit over 6 gallons of gas left (put in 14.4 gallons), so I figure real-world I'm good for at least 320-340 miles tank.

There's probably a built-in "dumb driver" factor so people fill up well before they run out of gas.

Mine also usually shows 310-320 after I fill up. The first few weeks after I got it, I was seeing 400ish. I don't pay much attention to it, other than I was down to 1 (then just dashes) a while back with about 10 miles to the nearest gas station. Made it easily with about 3 gallons still in the tank.

    Like said before.
YOU will have 2 to 2 1/2 gal LEFT IN THE TANK when it says zero miles left, you can go 30 mile or more AFTER zero.
Its a stupid safety factor they have into the gauge.

Mine read 385 miles after a fillup from new until recently. Now it reads 381 after a fillup. I assume it received an update over the air after I installed the Entune app on my phone and paired it. I had never done that before, but when it started losing bluetooth once I got an iPhone, I did. The bluetooth problem went away.

From what I've seen on my truck it is a calculation based on all of your driving miles and driving habits. My truck started at 380 miles when I first got it. Quickly went down to 320 because the vast majority of my driving is highway at 70 to 75 mph. I recently took a trip to Big Bend National Park. Speeds out the way are a little higher so I was going 75 to 80 mph. So IMO, it's not really a calculation but more of a best guess based on driving history.

It seems that the calculation has to do with tank averages and a short term MPG average. Notice that tank averages reset automatically when you fill up. Distance to empty is part of that too.

Someone else said it. The calculation becomes more and more accurate the less fuel you have in the tank, less the reserve amount where it says "0 miles to empty" when really you have a couple of gallons.

Same with my tacoma after filling up....a couple times when it had less mileage on the odo... after a 150 mile highway trip i filled up it registered just over 400 miles.

I don't look at the dash numbers after a fill up, one time the dash display reported 26-27 after less than 10 miles in true city driving in our fairly hilly little ol' town. Nope, no way. I keep the head unit on the mileage bars and the dash display on its bars. I average 22.5+ mpg figured manually per fill up, and after a quarter of a tank gone if my DTE plus odo give 415+ then I know I'm driving with a smart right foot.

I notice that once you get below 1/2 a tank the distance to empty reading decreases more rapidly than when the tank is over 1/2 full. Once it starts reading under 100 miles to empty it is not even close to accurate on my truck. 50 miles to empty goes down to 20 miles to empty in about 15 miles.

Hi, I can’t figure out how to start a new post so I’ll just reply here and maybe somebody can help me. I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma and the Distance to empty used to read better than what it’s reading right now. I just filled up and added two extra gallons to ensure I’d get at least 325 miles to my tank of fuel as I am working over the road anyway,… It is showing I have 252 miles is my distance to empty and I know that this is incorrect. What do I do? I normally leave my truck running when I feel up but I need to know if I should just start dealing with the truck off.

Oh and it’s relatively new to me because I wrecked my 2012 Tacoma in November so I needed something right away to go back to work with so I bought the 2017 and the first time I filled up putting two extra gallons in it read 368 miles to that tank of gas and I’ve only seen that show on my truck since I bought it November 10. I really don’t know what’s going on I don’t know if it’s a sensor. I don’t know if I disconnect the battery and start over I don’t have a clue what to do. I never used to have a computer with a screen like this on my old truck and I miss that truck severely.

Yes the truck should be off when fueling it.

When I had my 2012 I was always in a hurry to get gas so I always left it running when I was filling it with gas but that’s the only thing that comes to mind that could possibly be what’s wrong but it should reset I would’ve figured end it is not resetting so I have a full tank of fuel but it shows me 239 miles right now before empty and I know that can’t be right

In my 2012, at half a tank I had roughly 250 miles at that point to run still on so that picture has to be totally incorrect
