    Mornin' gang.

Got the family 2nd gen looking tough this weekend. My lack of patience encouraged me to order some ditch light brackets on Amazon so I could have them the next day.

    IMG-2916.jpg

This is the first time I've done any lighting that is mounted the way ditch lights are, so I am wondering, is a vibration typical? Or is it just the cheapo brackets.

They seemed beefy until the pod light was installed, and would bounce even just from the shock of closing the door.

When I say vibration / bounce, I am talking about something similar to a ruler on the edge of a table.

Just trying to avoid any potentially cracked brackets or hood mounts! Any suggestions on a more stout bracket would be appreciated as well. Thx all!

What ones did you order? I have some from SSO and they do not vibrate. Where your hood bolts on should be fine. Over time the bracket could fatigue and crack though.

I had a feeling all the ditch lights out there weren't 'vibing.'

Here are the brackets I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C1NLXV99?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

This is most likely another example of "5 times cheaper = 5 times shittier"

They look nearly identical to some other offerings out there, and are the same thickness. Maybe it comes down to Chinesium vs. American Steel

I have ditch lights on mine but my truck is 3rd gen. Same brackets as yours.

    No vibration.

Make sure bracket and light bolts are tightened enough so they won’t vibrate.

I'll give them a few more ugga-duggas beyond the OEM torque spec and report back. Maybe a little more sauce is the answer.

Follow up: Tightened these up way beyond spec, and they still bounce. Chocking it up to shit parts from Amazon. Can't say I am surprised. We will see how a pricier option works out...

Can anyone comment on the wind noise (if any)? I wanna get ditch lights too but I would appreciate some feedback first about noise

Just turn the stereo up, benefit of extra lights outweighs any possible noise

I have SSO brackets with BD S2s. I notice a whistle from time to time.

Even though the steel thickness is the same, it could be bc the base on your kit is narrow compared to the ones from SSO. They have a bunch more slots which probably adds more strength to prevent it from vibrating easily.

do you use the ditch lights that often
i saw a 88 sr5 Tacoma at a dealership for 32,999! With 78,xxx miles …. That’s probably 3 x more then the original price of the truck when it was brand new…. Stick shift 4x4 is the way to go if you wanna keep going lol

I don’t night wheel a ton, no. Not sure what that has to do with the whistle though.

That was a reply to a different quote “ the guy complaining about the cost of 1st gens” not sure why it ended up with this quote since I did them separately

I too, went with Amazon cheapy ditch light brackets and it was a mistake for sure. I now have the Cali raised LED ones and they are rock solid.
