The cloud dvr on PlayStation vue was the big selling point for me. Directv now and sling have some catching up to do

If your a big iTunes/apple person, Apple TV is pretty cool too. My wife just buys most of our movies that contain iTunes copies and we just watch them on the Apple TV and then plus side is it contains all the Netflix/Hulu/HBO now/etc like any streaming box/stick and apparently they are supposed to be adding Amazon prime video to it sometime soon. It also allows you to stream TV channels provided you have a cable subscription including those channels (as long as the channel's app is on Apple TV)

I still rather buy physical copies of movies. That way if I stop using a particular service, I don't have to worry about my movies with that service being inaccessible.

Yeah that's why you get physical copies with the digital copy code included. Sometimes they only let you do it through flickster or some bullshit though.

Oh I've actually never used one of those codes. I've always just ripped the movie from disc of I need a digital copy.

So is the content streamed through kodi legal? I just picked up a fire stick and really like it so far. A few of my co workers have them with kodi with other add ons. Phoniex is the one if I remember correctly that they say will give pretty much everything. They have been telling me all about it for a while and I figure it's got to be illegal. They are telling me they stream movies that are still in theaters so I know that can't be legal. They make fun of me saying I'm too serious about this thinking into it too much.

I have read that kodi is a legal app but it opens up to some gray areas beyond that. Also read I need a good vpn if using kodi. Are there any free vpns anyone would recommend to use for kodi?

Anyway just trying to figure this all out and don't want to get into legal troubles. It all sounds great but too good to be true. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Kodi itself is perfectly legal. Some of the add-ons/plugins may not be.

I have TV, but only because the price difference was minimal. Time Warner won't sell less than 60 mbps now, which is excessive for someone who lives alone. Makes internet pricey. When you get TV with it, they knock the price down so it only ends up being a little more.

I really wish I could get about 20 mbps and a channel streaming service. I do have a Roku, Amazon Prime, and Netflix and I use those much more than I do the cable.

Of course, I live in a pretty rural area so I should just be thankful I have cable at all.

That's about all I can figure myself. Also read that kodi is an open door for hackers. Not sure that could go beyond the fire stick or wifi but wouldn't want any potential for someone to get into my computer.

Another article I read also said the internet providers spy on you therefor the need for the vpn. Said that if you're streaming too much there don't like it since they want you to pay for their tv services and start slowing your internet down and even send threatening letters. Total bs.

AFAIK, net neutrality hasn't been rolled back yet, so ISPs can't throttle data based on usage.

Comcast has a 1tb limit. Which I now hit 2nd month in a row. You have to pay extra for more.

    I hear Comcast is horrible.

I have Cox. I've gone over their cap numerous times, only sometimes getting an email stating I've exceeded the cap. They've never charged me extra though.

I get that, it's just what I've read in some article on the web. Although I don't know what AFAIK is?

    As far as I know I don't have a limit, I'm on U-verse.

I use Private Internet Access for my VPN. I think it was $40 for a whole year, and well worth it. I did research on the most private VPNs and this one won.

There is a reason why torrents get shut down. No it is not legal but the regulation hasn't really caught up to the streaming community. Try using exodus. It gives you pretty much everything you need on kodi.

This is about what I was thinking, I keep telling my co workers it will get shut down. They say not, that they can't. But the tv/film companies are losing way too much money and imo will put a stop to it or at least crack down making it illegal.

With that said and par for the course as soon as I jump in it'll happen. So if/when I guess y'all can blame me. :anonymous:

I didn't realize some cable ISPs had data caps! As much as I'm not a fan of Time Warner, at least they don't, though I only go through about 200 GB a month anyway.

The cable company up here has data caps on every plan. The cheapest plan is double what normal cable companies charge and is capped at 50GB/month.

Makes sense that they would do that. They're going to lose all of their business to cord cutters
