I just received the AISIN WPT802 water pump from RockAuto. A few questions
    1. There is a obvious etch/cut on the part, seems to remove some serial no. Is this normal?
    2. Plenty of machining marks on the bottom mating surface, some deeper marks around bolt holes can be felt by running finger over them. Would these marks affect sealing capability?
    3. There is absolutely nothing warp the pump inside the AISIN box, not even a plastic bag. As you can see from the picture, those bolts not only made a big hole in the box during shipping, they also punched through the shipping box. Is this typical AISIN packaging? Does this look like a new part to you or someone's returned part?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Dog friendly, with dog snot on inside windows, with of course a/c! Mag 16 inch wheels from a Mazda.
That ground out spot on the casing is probably where they poured in the liquid metal into the mold. It's just ground down a little rough. The mating surface is ok that's why they give you a gasket or a liquid gasket to seal the mating surfaces. As far as a tear in the box, I assume it was packed inside another box. With such a sharp edge along with the 4 bolts sticking out. I can see why their be some kind of rip/tear in the box from shipment. Does the box have grease marks or looks like it's been open several times? If not I wouldn't worry about it. If you're really that concern, I'm sure Toyota OEM pump would be a little prettier and come in a nicer packaged box. At a much higher price! Don't worry about it'll be ok.

My '07 2.7L 4x4 Tacoma's water pump just failed at ~95k miles. This is a great reference! I'll post a reply once I have completed this job.

6" lift with 35x12.5 M/Ts. Lift is coming off soon though.
My '08 4.0L TRD is at 115k miles, coolant still looks and smells great and no noise from the pump. I'm starting to wonder if I should take this project on as a preventative measure or just see how far I can take this pump. Any opinions out there?

New frame courtesy of Toyota on 10/2015. A $12,000 job all on Toyota's dime. After 10 years of ownership I gotta say it's been a rock solid truck. Only problem is the front wheel bearings went out at 150K. Rest of the truck is stock original. Formerly was the original owner of a 1994 Toyota Extracab V6 4x4 DX Evergreen Pearl pickup 5-speed manual. Loved that truck!
I'm seeing how far I can take the water pump. My 06 (I'm original owner) currently has 215K miles on the original pump. Coolant has been changed every 100K miles with genuine Toyota Super Long Life fluid.

So I started today and have removed everything to get down to the water pump. The biggest difficulty that I have had so far is removing the four nuts that secures the cooling fan to the water pump pulley. Mine were practically welded on but with some time and effort they relented. Ill post pictures after I finish the swap.

I forgot to post the results of the swap. After two day of work (this was one of my first major replacements), I swapped out a water pump, thermostat, radiator hoses, and flushed/replaced coolant. That was a lot of work! Here are some pictures and descriptions of the process:

Is this a second gen 4 banger? It's certainly not a 1gr fe. Don't recognize the motor.

I must be one of the lucky ones also. My 2005 Tacoma currently at 145k miles and still with the original water pump and coolant. I'm gonna keep going until the pump starts weeping coolant or makes noises. Hope I can get to 200k miles

174K? Cool, I'm considering changing the fluid when I get to 175-180k miles. It still looks pink and smells normal

    @john81892 ,Thanks

Well I think it sets the tension on it's own. There is a tensioner pulley that does the work...use a socket to turn and release tension then belt can be removed. You will need a screwdriver to hold the pulley un-tensioned. After routing your belt back around take the screwdriver out and you're good to go.
Unless, I did it completely wrong.

I 2nd that it's got a spring loaded automatic tension pulley and no adjustments needed.
