I have been wanting to remove this old plastic bed liner from my truck ever since I bought it.
Well I'm on vacation now and it's time. We thought we would try and use a product we saw online called Herculiner. I will post some pics for each process. Today we will clean the bed and sand any rust spots. Its amazing what gets stuck under these bed liners causing rust. I had some help :rasta:

Yep about 20 quarter size spots right where the old plastic liner was rubbing away the paint. Just some surface rust it all sanded out pretty easy. All of the bed hooks are rusted along with the bolts. I tried cleaning one off and I wouldn't say they are rusted all the way through but holy crap not worth the effort. I will pick up some new ones on Monday at the dealership. Just finished scouring the whole bed and sanding the rusted spots.
out. Took about an hour only because of the rust spots.

I'm not sure how long its been in there. I'm pretty sure the original owner put it in in 2003. He lived in Virginia for about a year then moved to Jacksonville florida where I bought it. It pretty much sat in the navy yard and only has 65k miles on it. There was a ton of crap under it though. Leaves pine needles sand and mud dobber homes. I actually expected it to be much worse than it was. The plastic liner looks like almost no one has ever even used the bed for anything. Not a scratch on it. I'm going to put it out by the street and hope someone steals it haha. My buddy is coming in from Afghanistan tomorrow so the rest of the project will have to wait until wed. or so. I will post more pics when we clean the bed with Acetone and start brushing on the Herculiner.

I remember when we pulled my buddies drop in liner up on his 98 back maybe in 2007. Bed was just as bad as his frame (we live in NY) rusted and rotted to hell. Told him his taco had cancer lol. Anyway the truck was a beast, only a 2.7 but was a blast. Reason I bought my 03 DC and his buddy bought his 04 AC. He picked it up for 5k then Toyota bought it back for almost 9 grand because of the frame issue not too shabby I say

Was surprised your bed wasn't worse than what it was. But then I seen your from Florida. I would take it to get sprayed. We do sprays at our work. Much better than the self kits. Most self kits look terrible

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
You got a nice truck, but I absolutely LOVE your dog! What is he? Looks pit but not 100% by any means, he's definitely stunning though nonetheless!

Oh thanks we just rescued him. He is pointer and retriever mix. He is such a great dog I couldn't believe anyone would part with him. Fully trained and hose broken he even rings our bells when he wants to go out lol.

Yeah I was super happy to see that it wasn't very bad. Tons of leaves and sticks and only very light surface rust. I got super lucky.

So we started pretty early in the day. Picked up some new washers for the tailgate and a box of Herculiner after our morning coffee.
