Surface mount, doesn’t use the hole. A 600A breaker isn’t going to be cheap which is why most go straight from the battery for winch connections. There are plenty of uses for a second breaker though even without a winch.

Think I'm going to go with a Blue Sea e-series switch for about $50. Surface mount, 350A continuous, 600A intermittent. Well within spec for the Smittybilt X20. Will just have to figure out where to mount it up, which is why it'll likely come later.

Ordered the Pelfrey. I'll figure something out for the second spot or I won't.

If your truck is a third gen, can you share which mount this is? Need to get the mounting tray figured out, all my parts are on their way!

I bought it new but it's an old 2nd gen, 2006, 2WD Sport. I mention that because I think my particular model has the ABS on the passenger side, giving me more room on the drivers side compared to the 4WD models. Anyway, I bought the plate from Tacoma Pros http://tacomapros.com/rtmr-mounting...utout-2005-current-tacoma-4runner-fj-cruiser/

I've got my crimps, and before I start ordering parts I wanted to see if anyone had enough spares to build one before I did. I think wrapping my head around what I need to order borders on being more difficult than the actual build.

I guess what is causing me trouble tonight is determining which terminals go to what and what size.

E: figured it out thanks to part 5.

I guess I need to ask about AOB switches and the need for a ground wire in the six-way connector.

That ground wire isn’t necessary if you’re using the dash lights pos/neg to illuminate the switches. You can use that sixth wire to trigger a more potent relay since he Bussman relays only go up to 30A or buy a 5-gang connector set.

Yes, I have a couple harnesses that I will be pulling from at each potential switch bank.

Hmm, decision time then. What might be an example of a higher rated relay?

Some Bosch style relays are rated at 40A NO/35 NC. you can get them higher as well. My compressor is on a separate 40A relay.

Interesting point. I am planning on getting the ARB dual compressor in the future.

I’m going arb twin. Fused and circuit breaker at 55 amps for power but the switch will be off Switch-Pros and I’ll keep the arb relay in their wiring harness.

I do have a high current relay rated to 75 amps for in cab switched power. But it’s not sealed and I wouldn’t want that in the engine bay or anywhere it’d be exposed.

You might be able to split the arb dual harness and have each motor run off a separate Bussman fuse/relay and trigger both relays from the one switch. Eats 2 relay and fuse slots but eliminates the extra external fuse/relay. You’d have 3 relays left.

Not sure I want to eat two spots there. I do have an extra breaker spot on my mount, perhaps I can come up with a weatherproof relay mount.

It looks like I'll be in for this for about $400 minus crimpers at the best pricing I can find without having a ton of overage. I will look at my list tomorrow to see how much more making a second one is, if I can end up selling it to recoup some money.

    Started collecting my components today.
Having a real tough time sourcing affordable wiring in Canada though.
I was hoping to find local suppliers - I'm sure they're around here some where.

@tacozord, Thank you for your time and effort putting this information together. Everyone else contributing to this threat also brings plenty of useful information (to me at least). Been up for days reading and re-reading posts, other threads and build pages, other forums, product websites, manuals, and spec sheets. Really looking forward to doing this project, and what ever else transpires along the way.

You’ve gotta have some local places. Did some instrumentation work a while back & there was still some places then. Try industrial wholesalers too. There’s really nothin’ there that’s not bread ‘n butter.

So far I only came across a few places selling spools and I'm not looking to buy hundreds of feet worth unless I end up building a couple of extras after I finish with my set up, and selling them to help recover some expenses. I'll have to call around tomorrow to see what can be found locally.

You can also source a business that does wiring and inquire if they have any "leftovers" they would sell you at a reasonable price. Or even ask those places that want to sell you a 100 foot spool if they have any "extra" wiring around in various lengths. If you explain what you are doing they might be helpful.

Lots of places sell kits of many colors in matching lengths.

I have seen options that can be shipped from the US, yes. However shipping, duty, and brokerage fees end up nearly costing the same amount (if not more) than the products ordered in the first place.
I did end up getting a hold of IR Electronics in Manitoba - he can ship the required wire lengths. He's confirming he has colors and sizes on the list tomorrow, and a shipping estimate.

I ended up calling around locally. One location had 1000ft spools they could order in, but NO ONE seems to use or stock GXL / TXL wire around here. Still hunting around for wire. There is no rush, so I don't want to pay 200%+ the actual cost, and don't want to end up with full spools.
Hoping to track down a place that will ship for free/cheap in Manitoba/Ontario. I feel there is a much higher likelihood of finding the correct wire since they are more automotive based out that way.

    https://truckpartsuperstore.ca/pages/search?query=TXL&sort=price
These guys have Painless wiring TXL in 25' lengths; that price is overkill though. Wirebarn has 25'x11 colors for $37USD total. Painless my ass

I'll keep searching. Like I mentioned, there's no grand rush.
