I needed a dog platform for my access cab and looked at the different options. I like the look of the goose gear rear seat removal, however, I don't like that I have to reinstall the seats every time I have a third person to drive and I certainly don't like (though understand) the $800 price tag. I set off with zero wood working skills and 12v tools (drill, jig saw, circular saw, and sander) to attempt to create my own and here is what I came up with:

I started with a cardboard layout:

From there I used plywood, aluminum (light weight reinforcement), and small allen head bolts to make my top portion:

I applied a primer to the top:

    And then applied bed liner:

In the end, its not nearly as nice as the goose gear, but I didn't blow my stimulus check and get to keep my seats (I can take the platform out in 45 seconds). If I were to improve it, I would have higher quality latches and straighter cuts.

Nice, that looks really good! The real question is - how does your dog like it?
