So the idea has been changed a few times but my concern is making it last for years to come as well so I want to use high end materials and make it easily repairable down the road. For the framing of the box I am going to use 80/20 Aluminum T-slots. I feel like with drawer systems one of the biggest flaws is the corners and edges getting worn and breaking down, this will keep the frame solid for the years to come. The great thing with this too is that the faces will be able to be popped out for maintenance or replacement easily without having to rip down the structure. Im going to utilize drawer slides that will be secured to the frame aswell to support the drawers. My idea is metal will withstand the elements a lot better as it isn't susceptible to warping or expanding from moisture. Mine will also be framed out to take up the whole bed.

The framing idea was adopted from @Iggy, here is a picture of something he build for reference as to what the frame looks like (however I will be using t-slots instead of the quick frame)

I love the idea of using 80/20 and you're right it's a little expensive but if used properly will give you years of service. I'd like to see how the sliders for the drawers are installed when using this material

It is, I did a rough estimate and it would be close to $200+ in materials but keep in mind some drawer systems are $2,000

80/20 is a great option but a little overkill imho. Sure it all depends on use but i have been rough on my system and it shows no sign of wear. however my whole plan was to install and leave it, so i really don't have to worry or risk corners being damaged b/c mines is meant to be permanent. i will have to cut the top deck off to remove due to how well it is glued and screwed. i do plan on a V2.0 next spring that will be similar to what i have now but will include an additional slide undermounted on the bedslide to use for a cook/prep area (i just use the tailgate now)

true, relative to pre-manufactured drawer systems this is a steal. I was looking at the sliders that @Doozy4212 used and they're $142 for 2!

what sliders were you planning on using for your design?

For my next round my system will include

    1. the same general idea as V1, 2 drawers split down the middle. the base will be 1/2" birch, the supports/walls will be 3/4" birch (possible doubled up as they are now)
    2. a solid top deck on the driver side with l-track to secure all my goodies
    3. a 48" bedslide on a locking drawer slide on the right for my cooler w/ an undermounted 48" table/cook/prep on a locking drawer slide area that will have a mounted but removable cutting board, a spot for my cook partner 22 and an adjustable table leg for additional support since full extension will essentially be 8 feet 48" + 48", this will all still fit under my rear mounted awning for protection while i cook.
    4. the left side drawer will use the current slide for my bedslide and have a compression latch like goose gear.
    5. the entire skeleton will be line-x'ed so i can still spray down the sides of the bed b/c i still collect a lot of dust there.
    6. instead of the cubbies in the back with the doors, that will be open and house my 2 6 gallon water jerrys that i now have a pump to pull water out of.

Most likely I will go the skate bearing route, just need to map the logistics first but that will be roughly $200 for all the components. Looking to spend around $500 on my whole system

im with you, i have a mental image of what I want to do and maybe i'll sketch it out on a notepad...probably not the best most efficient use of time and material but that's how i roll...

anyone thought about doing 80/20 to build drawers with? Looks nice but can be expensive.
