No clue Greg, but atf does expand as it heats up, so your experience seems to make sense. Sounds like you should be good to go.

I am not sure what they charge. I imagine $30-$35 though. If you would get yours done I will to. I did my change at 60k so we could kind of compare the differences.

B.S. $30 now or $3,000+ later. Your choice. IMHO

Its your truck, but I would recommend flushing it. It's really not that hard to do yourself. I definately wouldn't recommend leaving it in until it starts malfunctioning.

Can you recycle the AT oil like regular oil at an auto parts store? What's the concensus about a full flush resulting in pushing junk into the valves but a pan flush of 3 quarts being safe?

Yeah i tried to recycle it at walmart and they told me no, but then i went to Autozone and they took it and dumped it in the same bin as they do the oil, so i don't think it makes any difference. As far as pushing stuff into the valves i don't know for sure, but i would think it would be fine.

As I understand it - a trans flush-exchange is what to avoid as it stirs and loosens up crap which then clogs valves. A drain and fill is preferred as it does not loosen up any debris and adds fresh additives. I would rather be safe then sorry.

Just do it yourself. I did this on my wife's Envoy and is very similar on the steps that I did. The wife no longer has the Envoy and a 2011 Highlander took its place. I wonder if it would be similar... but it will be for a while since the Lander is spanking new :D:D

To the OP, well done. Your steps on how to do it give the impression you had fun doing it. :)

I call BS in a good way. Unless the tranny is for a F16 fighter jet then I'd leave it to the pro's but if you let the tranny run for a minute or so while you are draining/filling the tranny, it will not be hurt. I did the same thing on an Envoy with 81k miles on the clock and it ran smooth w/o issues. The OP is doing PM and that is a good thing. I'd say do it.

Yup, I saw your response on the other thread as well and don't necessarily disagree but then again not a 100% certain. I love to hear others experience with the full flush and what if any issues came up followig it.

I completed this today. My truck has 85k on it and this is the first service completed on its transmission. I was very excited and thankful to find this thread. I tow a 5000lb travel trailer so I want to do my best to protect the drive train. The fluid I removed was very dark but smelled just like the new fluid (I used OEM). IMO color is not a good indicator of fluid life. Well used fluid always smells much different than new. All this being said, I would not be afraid to change it every 100k (especially if you are not towing).

btw: it was over serviced from the factory by 3/4 quart

Thanks to Mountain Lion for an excellent "how to"
