Just did my second trans fluid replacement yesterday. Truck has 160k miles on it. I do my own version of Fortech's DIY. Mine is much easier and works great.

Don't have to remove the skid plate, the drain plug or drop the pan. I remove the top atf hose where it connects to the radiator and snake it down and into an empty atf gallon jug. I attach a hose to that same nipple on the radiator and snake it down where I connect it to a garden sprayer filled with the gallon of atf form that same jug.

Start truck and drain out 2 quarts then shut off. Then pump up the garden sprayer and slowly pump in two quarts of new fluid. Repeat that six times which replaces replace three gallons. Reconnect the atf to radiator hose back to radiator.

Then get under truck and remove the fill plug (I did loosen the fill and level check plugs at the beginning of this entire job). Attach the garden sprayer with some new atf in it (I had about half gallon in it) to the fill inlet and have it ready to pump in. Start truck and cycle through all gears (keep your foot on the brake). While truck is idling in park crawl back under and with a catch basin under the pan, remove the level check plug. If fluid comes out let it drain until it gurgles and goes to a small trickle the reinstall the level check plug. If no fluid comes out then begin pumping in fluid from the sprayer until fluid being coming out level check.

Hate to burst your bubble. But that is also a covered item on here with the procedure. Your steps suck compared to the original article. I encourage you to use the search function.

There's nothing wrong with what I posted. Plus it just may help somebody else who wants a simpler way to do this. What are you the forum nazi?

Yes, I am the forum nazi! And that method was posted back in the early 70’s. Don’t fret, we will say you invented this procedure. Now! Let’s move on. Let’s talk about something new like, How often do you change your oil.

The way you do it has been posted by Crom in his build thread. It should be stickied. Thanks for submitting this tho because his isnt super easy to find.

Actually I came up with my method back in 2011. I posted it on the forum back then. Who knows? Maybe Crom got his method from me? The biggest improvement was the use of the garden sprayer. I do believe I was the first to think of that. I did try a drill pump first but it did not work out for me. The garden sprayer is perfect. It goes kinda slow but that's OK. I like to take my time.

Change transmission fluid every 80k miles. Change engine oil once a year.

I just did this to my 08 @142k. I did the first flush at 100k, I got bored and did it again 8k miles early.

My trucks got 116k, never been flushed. Little nervous to do this, but my fluid is significantly darker than the OP's picture of his at 50k.

Im curious, why do you have to put the truck in gear after a full flush? It seems to me that you should drain and replace and go. whats the purpose?

To fill all the passages/circuits in the valve body with fluid to get an accurate fluid level when you check it. Who’s to say that what you drained was at the correct level?

I don't know the part number, but AutoZone has them, and they come with a new pan gasket as well. Looks like one has been discussed in this thread -- the FRAM FT1237.

Best guide there is for the trans flush. 2nd time for me to use it. This time on my 2nd tacoma. Flushed at 130k with unknown transmission service history. Fluid wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be but was definitely time to change. Used 13 quarts of Amsoil signature series fuel efficient atf and operates so much smoother.

Quick question, does the entire truck need to be level or just the trans pan? Because I checked level on the frame and the pan wasn't level..and vise versa
