Great info here

 

From the factory toyota has a number of holes in the back of the rocker that are sealed with rubber, they come off and allow water in. My solution was to find the plugs they use to cap the hole they drill when rust checking. I had to use a step drill to open them up one size for this to work. Two different trucks my 02 and 04

Did mine when I flushed my coolant. Was one of the easier things I've done

 

Do you think it’s necessary?

 

I only plug it in when it gets into the negatives. I don't think its necessary above 0 though
