I am going to be doing a OEM camera from a 09+ on my 06 Tacoma to one of the ottonavi head units that has a RCA plug for input for the backup cam. I am planning on taking a RCA plug and splicing it to the piece of wiring from the OEM camera. I am assuming that the video neg goes on wire and video pos to another wire on the RCA plug. My question is which is which? Also will this idea even work? Any thoughts guys?

Excellent writeup, your post has given me a lot of good info that I can use on my install. I am planning to do an install with my aftermarket backup camera and run it to my Pioneer AVIC gps unit. I also liked the way you installed your small video monitor which I might do a small video monitor for my Icom IC 7000 hf amateur radio install.

    Thank you,

    Eric

Thank you very much sir! The link didn't work for me but reminded me to put "pinout" in my search and found a couple other posts about it too. Hoping to get everything within a couple weeks and I hope to do another thread with a review of the ottonavi unit and the camera install install. But we will see where my patience is! Thanks again!

Well got the waterproof license plate camera on, has two shield plugs, yellow(video) and red.. Now with Toyota harness has 4 pins as you pointed out, was having trouble getting a signal to the new camera...was splitting the yellow up to go to red + and white - and the split the red wire from camera to blue and black for power. Need some help, thanks

The pinout might not be the same as far as location on the plug, but you're still gonna have camera +/-, ground, and power

Bump! Hoping one of you lads will be able to enlighten me here. I apologize in advance for my stupidity. I just bought a Sony XAV-AX1000 Receiver for my 4cyl 09 along with everything needed to install it—receiver wiring harness, Posi connectors, dash kit, screw pack. My tailgate handle has an empty slot for a backup camera, so I found the part number and bought one on eBay. I want to install this camera and connect it to my new receiver. Would it be safe to assume that my truck is all pre-wired for this? Is there anything else I'll need (additional wires, harness, electrical tape, etc.)? Got any tips that will make for a smoother/quicker installation?

From what I've gathered, the pre-wired 09s are set up for the rear-view mirror/monitor. So, how exactly would I bring that wiring from the overhead console down to the head unit? Is there a specific route or method that makes the most sense (probably obvious to you; frickin' Chinese to me)? I have no clue what can or can't be pulled off or moved around. Crutchfield said the receiver comes with detailed installation instructions, and also offered to walk me through it over the phone, but it's the camera I'm worried about.
If I'm not pre-wired, I may just have to bite the bullet and take it into the shop... :spending:

You might consider asking in the Audio & Visual subforum. Lots of knowledge and help with these specific issues over there too.

I made a post over there about 9 hours ago and unfortunately the only answer I got was that the pre-wiring would be found running into the tailgate or tucked behind one of the taillights. Although I appreciate the clue, it really didn't help my situation. Maybe I'll make another post with some more detail. Thanks biscuits.
