Here’s a little secret for those that live in apartments that don’t allow you to work on your trucks in the parking lot or they’ll evict you...... go to a different apartment complex parking lot and work on your truck. I did this my entire college career. Never have to worry about getting evicted. 4D chess, man.

This was my biggest skepticism before buying. It's been over a year now and it absolutely does not drip.

8 years with mine. I installed it at 5k miles when I did my first oil change and to this day, no drips. Only time you'll see a drip is post drain. The residual oil just accumulating on the bottom of the valve.

If you are in York county all of the waste collection facilities take oil. I store it in a 5 gal
bucket until it’s 2/3 full and then take it to the one less than a mile down the road.

Not unless they are damaged. They are quite reliable. They (that style, not futomo specifically) are PMA approved on many aircraft engines. They do hang down a bit further than the OEM plug. 1-2" depending on what style you get.

There no real cost difference for me to have oil changed and tire rotation

The older I get, the more work I do on my own vehicles. Got sick of crappy expensive repairs from the mechanic shops. My OCD takes over and I become a perfectionist when working on things so like one poster said at least I have the peace of mind that I know it is done right and I was probably much more meticulous than the mechanic was in being sure that is done right.

The reason I didn't go with the fumoto plug is because by adding the additional drain insert you can't drain all the oil out because the threads stick up higher in the oil pan. My OCD tells me that the bottom of the pan is where all the sludge and sediment settle and I want that out every time I change the oil. Even if it is only 1/4" of oil left in the pan it is the bottom where all the sludge, particulates, and residue settle.

hahahahaha! This is freakin genius, I love this idea. Of course, now I don't have to worry about it because I have a 9-acre spread with a barn and a 3 car garage. But where were you back in the day man?

No OCD here but I have the same concerns about draining as much contaminated oil as possible.
I've been doing basic maintenance on my vehicles for 50+ years, and the Tacoma is one of the easiest to do.

If that's the case, I wouldn't use one either. I have one at home, night it with intention to install at next OCI but after seeing how much it protrudes I am on the fence about it. The threads don't seem to be long enough to protrude above flush inside the sump but I'll measure next time the plug is out.

I have a Fumoto Valve and was worried about the sludge build up too. Then I measure the amount of threads in the pan to the amount that was sticking out from the valve. I was prepared to grind them down but the amount of protrusion was minimal and didn't even bother starting up the grinder. I also start draining the oil as soon as I get home from driving. It helps speed the process up and I figure everything should still be suspended.

If you dont want to grind the valve just keep adding washers. Any threads past the pain do nothing hold it in.

I got ya beat... I take my drain plug out for my short commute home from work. Then I can change the filter and add oil as soon as I get home, and don't have to find a place to take the old oil.

Alright... I'm kidding of course... but I'm sure someone has done it.

same had it on my Truck and on my previous car. Those things make engine changes a damn breeze. make sure you get one one with the nipple on it so you can add a hose on it. If you run skid it protects it. I just take off the lever lock, push the tube on, open and rank, flip it back and its done (minus oil filter).

Damn. You waste all that good oil? I spray down my entire underside with what I collect. Never have to worry about rust. Kidding of course.
