Hello, I've been confused as to what kind of filter to get so I can change the oil on my 2018 Tacoma. When I look up oil filters on O'reilly I get a list of disposable filters that I can buy, but I was under the impression that the truck has a reusable oil filter housing with a drain plug and that you replace the cartridge inside.

I recently moved and didn't have time to figure out how to do the change myself so I brought the truck to a Valvoline station where they installed a Valvoline VO25 filter. Does this mean I'll have to buy a reusable filter housing if I want to install an OEM cartridge? Is the OEM filter system better than disposable oil filters?

My last question is Valvoline says to come back in 3k miles or 3 months for another oil change but Toyota recommends replacing the oil every 10k miles. Am I good just checking the levels and topping it off until I hit 10k miles? Thanks for any help!!!

    Have you checked your manual?
    Have you opened the hood?

I'd be surprised if it uses that type of filter.

That doesn’t make sense how did they get a canister filter on there? It has to be a valvoline insert filter just like the oem one.

It is a cartridge style filter on the V6, just get it from a Toyota Dealer and the OCI is 10K.

3rd gen 6 cyl Tacomas don't use spin on filters. Pick you poison from O-reilly's, your original cartridge style housing is still gonna be where it was before you made the mistake of pulling into a "Jiffy Lube"

So the 4banger gets a normal one while the V6 Masterrace gets stuck with this silly plastic housing?

They make a metal housing for it and Baxter makes an adapter for a spin on filter to be used.

Yup, dealer did at least one drain and refill, no filter change.... maybe 2. The toyota care didn't care very much. Such a waste of time. 4 hour wait each time, not including the recalls and other issues that came with my truck.
The dealer will not touch my truck again.

Buddy had a dealer leave those fender protector blankets over the front of his Ford. Damn near grenaded the motor From overheating on the freeway lol. Dealer has only done a TSB and tinted my rear windows after lying about checking my trans. I've been lucky
