I took a little time to design and build a cap storage frame for my '98 Tacoma. Not the cheapest way to do this job, but I had a few extra parts lying around and the aluminum T-slot framing can be used to build almost anything (and corrosion won't be a problem!). I also added some 2" wheels to the front corners of the cap to guide it along the bed and prevent the cap from sliding off on either side (Actually, these wheels should help even with two people removing/installing the cap straight to/from ground storage.) I also added gussets to the front frame cross member to guide the cap straight along the inside cap rails. I didn't have much room to work with in my tent so the frame dimensions were very tight.

    Basic Procedure:
    1. From inside the bed, remove the (4) clamps and push the cap up off the bed just enough to break it's sticky seal.
    2. Push the cap about 6" off the bed and bolt the 45mm T-slot to the far corners (below the rear glass) and across/underneath the back of the cap for handling.
    3. Align/Park in front of the frame and using the lower cross member, lift/pull the cap off the bed and up and over the front fixed cross member.
    4. Continue to lift/pull the cap along the truck bed and onto the frame until about half-way on top of the front cross member and the cap weight is almost balanced.
    5. Tilt the rear of the cap down and attach the lower cross member to the T-slot slide rails.
    6. Now lift from the front the cap and push the cap the rest of the way onto the storage frame.
    7. Reverse steps to re-install the cap from the frame.

Of course, lifting from above would be ideal but that wasn't an option for me. It was a little tricky getting the truck perfectly aligned with the frame, but I have other ideas to make this easier. Other than the obvious method for one person to remove/store the cap, another benefit is that I can still park my truck inside the tent with the cap stored just above it. This is a work in progress, so I will make improvements as I use it more often and learn more.
