Yes. I had a power tank until it had to be hydro tested the 2nd time. That process here meant it had to be sent away for days. The 2nd time they wouldn't verify it. That's when I bought my own and started trading it out. I'l get pics when I get home.

did anyone tell you if that was around the average life of a single tank or did they just tell you that they couldnt verify it? Also, how often did you have to get it tested?

If I recall, they wouldn't pass it because of its age. I don't recall how old that was. I only had to get it tested once, then the when that second period was over the tank was done. I was bummed because it's a pretty tank and all. Now that I trade tanks, I never have to worry about hydro testing again.

I'll have to do some research on this because this seems to be the safer way to go, the only problem I feel like I might run into with this is that I will most likely be moving within the next year so I don't know if I would be able to trade in my tanks all the time. It might make more sense for me to buy a new tank until I have a more steady living situation. I feel like if I have to get it tested every 5 years than a $100-150 investment wouldnt be the worst thing ever...

I have several 20lb CO2 tanks for beer. Oldest is from the mid 1980s. It's been hydro'd many times, always passes. The guys who fill mine (fire extiguisher place) say the steel ones are better because they can hold more. I also have some Al tanks. Helluva lot lighter. Al tanks are $120 on ebay/Amazon. Dealing with gas supply places is a PITA. I avoid them at all costs, because they are not friendly to Joe Schmoes who just brew beer or fill tires. They prefer big corporate clients. I found a local guy on craigslist that will exchange gas cylinders at a nearby gas station parking lot any time. He pockets a few bucks on top of fills he gets at probably discounted rates. Fine by me though, I don't have to do 9-5 runs to gas suppliers and deal with shitty attitudes.

What are you using to cover the valve? I think DOT regulates that it has to have some kind cover/protection in the event of the tank falling over and possibly hitting the valve

I kno I've swapped out my small mig bottle a few times that doesn't have any kind of cover, but I didn't store it on my truck n take it on the trail with me

If you have a place to fill it you have a place to trade it. That's what restaurants do for the drink co2 tanks.

Yes that valve, the one on the tank. I would hate for it to fall and break off turning into a projectile. Like in gone in 60 seconds

This is my set up. I have (2) 5 lb tanks. Much easier to stow.
