What are those long bolts that hold your traction boards? Threaded rod?

    Yes!

Will use the same for my Plano case.

I don't want any carriage bolt so with the threaded rod I can 1- extend it later if I get more boards and 2- remove it anytime and 3- install it or move it without touching the crossbars.

Is there a reason there isn't a bar at the very front to sorta take up that space?

Yeah. My tracks don’t go that far forward.

I’m limited to the length of the tracks on the cap.

On mine the front and rear crossbars are are the ends. But the mounts are one crossbar in from the ends.

Take the stainless ones, and 1/4-20 as rest of hardware is easier to get.
For the small sections that I created between crossbars, in those you can put standards slide in t nuts but you have to buy them on eBay as tnutz doesn't have stainless ones. They are half the price of the drop in ones.

My thought on the crossbar being attached slightly below the top line of the side rails are twofold; 1) Maintaining material integrity. If it is mounted flush then the holes are might be very close to the top edge of the side rails potentially weakening the integrity of the material, 2) having a little bit of lip would stop something from sliding off the side unintentionally when mounting or dismounting cargo.

You're faster than me. I mounted plano but need to remount with stuff in.

With my fractured ankle it's soooo slow to work on the truck!!!
