Really!? That's not too bad of a shipping price for a ~12x5x47 package that probably weighs 45 lbs.
80/20s shipping rates are nearly the same as tnutz. I paid 70 bucks in shipping from 8020 recently for some roof rack stuff.

Amazon prime has spoiled you all.

Also for any one in orange county looking for material I strongly suggest Schorr Metals. I go there 1-2 times a week to get material for our machine shop.

They dont have extruded aluminum cross bars, they will have raw material like the 3 in side plates, 90degree angle for brackets, barstock.
Im currently making my own roof rack not like the prinsu style, and have gotten most of the raw materials from there, and the fasteners from McFaddenDale down the street.

Maybe try here with a local distributor? https://www.tslots.com/find-a-distributor/
(when I used tslots I contacted every single one of my local distributors and all of them told me no, or I needed to order hundreds for them to even consider it, maybe you'll have better luck in TX :notsure:)

e/ I agree tho, these bars should be a fraction of the cost..

Im not sure which ones you were looking at on Tnutz, but the ones that are labeled for tacomas are 1"by2" and in your 80/20 cart those are ~1.5" x 3" look up 8020 part number 25-2550 for the equivalent.

edit, also go buy a tap and tap handle. Not only will it save you from the ridiculous price of them doing it, but you'll also have the tool for a long time and the skills to use it.

No worries, if I find a reputable distributor with reasonable shipping fares I'll post it here

Good catch! They're about $40 more than the t-nutz place, though. Shipping is $40 from Indiana to Texas.

My side plates i bought raw 3”x12’x1/4”. I bought it from Industrial Metal supply in Irvine.
The extrusion bars are not expensive but yeah the shipping cost sucked but! It was heavy! So shipping made sense coming from Indiana.

I said F it & payed the $44 shipping. For side rails & t-nutz crossbars I'm in for $212. Still need to fab up mounting brackets to mount to my Thule rails but I have scrap metal to do it w/so that'll be free plus a couple bucks for hardware. $650 rack for <$220 is alright by me!

They were the first I called, I asked for two 66x3”x1/4 and was qouted $45 each. I wonder if it’s the cutting cost that cost a lot. Retarted in my case because I intend to cut it a bit more at home. Oh well

For future reference how much was the 12’ plate?

A 12’ bar was $57. They cut it in half for free. And i took care of the rest of the work of cutting it down to my measurements.
$45 each for you prob because you were specific on the length. I would cal them again.

When you get the shipment you will see how heavy they are. I got 6 bars and other small ones too. Im interested in seeing youre going to fab up the mounts. I had some ideas but imho the smity mounts work great. Kinda pricey on Amazon but theyre good!!! Good thing i bought em used!

Is that $44 for 7 - 47” extrusion bars? If so, maybe I’m just a sheep but that doesn’t sound unreasonable at all to me :notsure:

It cost nearly $40 to ship just the side plates for a DIY rack to a TW member in CO recently.
