First post on this forum but have been creeping for a while.

Had this in mind then I saw this thread! The tnutz link really made me pull the trigger and I’ve wanted to mill aluminum on the cnc, here was my excuse! 3/16” x 3” side rails (I would bump to 1/4” if I was to do it again) feels solid enough. Will post more pics of the truck when I get my 5100s and new tires installed. Hope the pictures work.

Nice job! I'd stick with 3/16" and do 3 mounts per side, light, more secure, and less weight per point load on the cap.

Thanks! Good thought! A third mount would be easy, just wish I had done 7 rails so I could have one centered

Did you get all of the hardware from Tnutz? What length bolt did you use to mount the side bar to the t-slot extrusion?

1/4-20x1” I believe (it says the thread off the tnutz site) plus flat and lock washers. I got my hardware from McMaster-Carr

I used 6’ and cut it to 70” to fit the long bed.

On my old rack, I found something that was round and used it as a template on the edges. Then just cut/grinded with an angle grinder. THEN clamp both sides together and finish off any minor differences, so they become identical.

Yeah! My old one was a unistrut one, but I had aluminum sides for asthetics. I got a new cap, so I got a prinsu to go with it as I wasn’t super happy with the unistrut rack. The kind in this thread is a much nicer design.

Love this! I just picked up a shell and was looking to get an old Yakima rack I have laying around on it, but im pretty sure I can get this built for less and make it compatible with the round bar attachments I have already.

Installed my rails, have the hardware and crossbars, ordered (expensive) Smittybuilt mounts (no time to make some for now) and currently finishing the drawing for the side rails.

Should be ready a 2-3 weeks!

I was thinking 66" length, I see one did 70" on their Long bed, now hesitating.

Depends on roof length and shape. The tracks don't bend much so you have to stay in a length where any curve is minimal and consistent.
