So I lost a rear door window this weekend in the trails. Branch came out of no where and knocked it right out... so today I got new glass and tried to figure this one out on my own (couldnt find anything on any similar vehicles)

I believe you can get it done with a 10mm socket, trim removal pry bars, screwdrivers and razor

I know the number of people who will want to do this is few and far between, but if it happens to you, it could save you some money. Having no directions I thought this was hard, just experimenting with where and how the window was going to go in, but I think it shouldn't be bad with these basic steps.

-Start by removing the door panel (take out the window control module and plug it back in so you can control it later)
-The carefully pull back the plastic liner (I wanted to save as opposed to replace)
-Pull off the bottom exterior window trim, there are 3 little metal tabs on the back underside that help hold it down (pulling it away towards the inside of the car should help, but in my case I just bent it back after it was off)
-Pull the rubber trim that encompasses the other 3 sides of the window
-Remove the 3 rubber grommets (2 towards the front, 1 towards the rear).
-Remove the lower window track - inside of the door towards the rear of the vehicle (there is a bolt at the top and a bolt behind one of the grommets you just removed).
-lower the window motor to about 2/3 down, stop when you can see the bolt that secures the glass through the large front grommet hole.
-remove the old brackets and vacuum up any old glass.
-slide the window in from the interior side of the door.
-bolt in the brackets that secure the glass (the cheap glass I got, the holes had to be drilled out about 1/8" each)
-reassemble in reverse order - test to make sure everything is functioning properly prior to reinstalling the door panel

A thief busted out the rear door window of my truck to steal a dufflebag, leaving me with the burden of having to replace the window. I figured I would contribute to this thread since other Tacoma owners out there might end up in the same predicament.

Here's a YouTube video on how to remove the rear door panel.

Here's a link to the .pdf of a portion of the service manual that shows the disassembly of the rear door.

I also uploaded that same .pdf to this post in case the above link doesn't work.

Here's a pic of how the rear door will look like once the panel is removed.

I plan on doing this project myself in order to save money and I will take some pics and post them in this thread for future reference.

I had the same thing happen over the weekend and some things I learned...

    1. I wanted OEM, but don’t order through a dealer, order OEM from Parts.toyota.com. $300 vs $150 for the window. I ponied up because I was heading out of town and thought it would be $150 at the dealer (idiot)

    2. “Slide in from the interior” is helpful but as a first timer window replacement, I didn’t realize the window guide on the back side of the door (right side from the interior) needs to be removed, and put back after the glass is attached to the mounts on the actuator.

    3. Order from the right place and do it yourself for at least 50% less than it’d cost to have it done

Hopefully this helpful to anyone in the future.
