So I saw this video the other day and it got me thinking. What if someone did this with a regular fiberglass canopy shell? How would you go about getting a solid connection and making it water tight? People do pop tops on vans all the time so it must not be terribly difficult.

If done correctly it could be very economical in comparison to a prefabricated version. ~$1500 for a cheap hard RTT and then whatever canopy you choose to hack up.

Off the bat I can see possible interference with the 3rd gen shark fin. But depending on the attachment method it might be spaced up high enough to clear that. I’ve seen the awesome custom builds but I’m hoping this can go somewhere that a more average skill set with less time can accomplish without too much heartache.

I think I’d rather go with an eztopper system than hack up a good canopy. I do see the appeal though.

I’d be more interested in something like this for a fiberglass canopy.
