Removed the Mud Flaps, Rock Deflectors and Head Rest. Limo Tint, I had 3" Toytec Lift, Procomp Nitrogen ES6000 shocks and Struts. AllPro UCA, AFE Pro Dry drop in filter, WeatherTecs. Now I have LR UCA's, Maxtrac Spindles, Eibach's, 5100's up front, Expos, 5160 for the rear, U Bolt Flip Kit, and Extended Brake lines.
Ok, so I had decided to remove the filter this afternoon. Thank you for the instructions.
Attached is a picture of the filter and you can see how it could restrict air flow.

If this is so then spending any money or time on intake modification on the 2.7 is a waste of time. Think about it: If this dyno is with the stock filter and then with out, what difference does putting a drop in filter that may not filter as well as stock matter. Stock filters are known to be restrictive but at the same time they filter the air quite well. Stating that the K&N may be "somewhere in between" is, well......in between what? there is little or no difference.

I would be interested in seeing a dyno for the 4.0, all stock, w/oSAF, with no filter, with K&N or any variation. I think the results will be similar.

On more point. A good air filter is the one main defense you have to protect the cylinder walls and rings of any engine. A good filter will make an engine last, poor or porous filter will kill a top end.

My top end has valves and valve stem seals and cams. I ordered mine with the cylinder walls and rings in the bottom end.........but I know what you meant. :D

As a techniciann at a repair shop i often wondered what that as there for. I have always thought to myself damn thats gotta be a hell of a restriction.
Coming out of my 06 4.0 as soon as i get the 10 minutes to do it.

Dont bother. It makes no difference in performance.

Hey Guys, I have the V6 with a K&N oiled filter replacing the OEM Paper filter. The secondary filter is still in place but I am strongly thinking about removing it. I am Just hesitant because of the Oiled filter messing with my MAF sensor. Any suggestions...

Ditch the K&N for a dry filter, and leave the charcoal filter in place.

bump as i was changing the filter today and that secondary one just bugged me. Researching weather i should do it and if prying is good enough w/o messing this up or if i need to take it apart and drill.

My fist through the filter and a swift pull took care of it in about 15 seconds however I have yet to see a gain in fuel economy or performance.
