I didn't remove mine. I wanted some kind of protection over the MAF. Not sure if it would make a difference or not.

Followed all the tips thanks everyone I pulled top of air box on my 07, used a dremel tool with a small disk and removed the top of the plastic retainers to remove the sec. filter. Blew out the airbox with air inlet covered to engine. nice improvement, the truck is running very happily now.

Wow, didn't realize this was a month old already...

Has anyone taken out the SAF on a '12 2.7? I'm already planning on getting an AFE Pro Dry, but would doing this in combination help any? Also thinking about getting some LCE headers to increase the outflow.

Perhaps I should've clarified. A month since anyone had posted...

I didn't see any feedback from anyone that had this done on a '12 4cyl. :)

Mpg doesn't improve with less intake restrictions.

    I second this statement ^

I've been monkeying around with how the intake is put together, right now I have the snorkel hose that goes to the fender off and i put a reducer coupling on where the corrugated hose connected. I reduced down to a 2.5" hole.

I'm thinking by removing the corrugated hose i have changed the torque

Is my thinking correct in saying that you can change your torque curve of the engine by changing the set up of the intake system. Intake system meaning everything/anything in front of the intake manifold.

I also have the Afe Pro dry filter.
I'm avg. about 200 miles a tank, which i think is poor.

    I'll agree with that.
200 miles on a tank, meaning only 10mpg?

Even on a V6 4x4 you should be pulling 16-18 unless you're running 35s and spend all your time driving around town.

I spend a lot of time driving in town. Stop and go is a real gas killer.
Was wondering if I kept my rpms below 2000, would I get better gas milage?

Probably not, and ya, in-town driving is a killer.

I'll be rolling 25.8 or higher on the Ultragauge with 300 miles on the tank.
One day, 50 miles, of puttering around town shopping with SWMBO and it'll dump to 23mpg.

Cold engine also hurts. Start of my commute, the "short average" on the UG will be 14 when I get on the freeway... maybe 18 by the time I'm 10 miles down the road, and finally start peaking around 25-27 depending on traffic after 20 miles.

Exactly... it's funny how so many people think if something helps their engine make more power, they will get better MPG. That extra power does not come out of nowhere, it comes from the computer adding *more fuel* with the increased airflow in order to maintain the correct A/F mixture.
