While negotiating a tight squeeze through traffic this morning, I manage to rub up against the side view mirror of a parked car (Honda Accord). The mirror housing left a black plastic-like residue on the right rear door. See attached.

Not interested in making an insurance claim, so would like to fix it myself. Doesn't need to look like new, but would like to make it go away to the extent I can.

    Recommendations?

I would try using a claybar (aka detailing clay). If the plastic left something embedded in the plastic, the clay should remove it. Once that's gone, you could polish any remaining marring out by hand.
