Ok, so last night, i was looking at this highly detailed install instruction for the keyless entry pad, and drew pause at the wiring setup and realized this bypasses the ECU's disablement of the door unlock buttons.

Unless i'm reading this wrong, we can throw a small ESP32 into the truck in wire it to pulse this "unlock" wire to ground and unlock the truck...walk-up bluetooth unlock from your phone, or better, a faster-scanning keyfob with your phone as an alternate backup.

I mean, it cannot be this easy, right?

In a past life, I attempted the magnetic-reed-switch in the driver mirror to parallel the door unlock button, only to find that if you lock the doors and close them, the door unlock buttons are wholly disabled. If this touchless keypad works with this wiring as shown, I'm thinking this is an alternate to the door unlock button reed switch.

Am I misreading the mechanism by which this keypad unlocks the doors? It just pulls that wire to ground momentarily. ...ya?

So, add a pull-up resistor and a protective diode, and we may even have something that won't fry the ECU????

Oh, and while I'm on the topic, anybody have any experience or thoughts on swapping the 2nd gen drivers door handle with one that includes a button? I'd want to bush the door handle button to wake the ESP32 to run a scan for BT devices, and if it sees mine, it opens. So, I'm looking for a clean way to put a button on the driver side door.

I don't know about the ESP32 and using BT for controlling it but yes, all you need to do is pulse a negative trigger to the door lock module to unlock the doors. Same for lock. This is how aftermarket alarms are wired and allow the door locks to work with them. You can access the wires in the driver's kick panel.
