Iv decided to do the ISR / IFA mod, drop in a TRD filter in the stock air box, and remove the fender elbow.

As for the ISR / IFA mod, Id prefer to just replace the whole "air intake tube" with a new one with no silencers (rather than removing the silencer and plugging the whole), in case anything goes wrong.

Iv found this part # PTR03-35090-AB - TRD Air Intake Tube for CAI

Does anyone know if this works with the stock air box?

    Just leave it alone.

Toyota designed an air intake system that is just perfect for your engine.

Anything else is a waste of your money.

Removal of silencer won't let you pass smog. Well at least in California. They filed it under "visual"

Totally agree, they built it well, for the best over all. But it is likely they make some minor air restrictions to make it slightly quieter(as most people want). But i wouldn't mind a slightly less restrictive intake with maybe a better throttle response and little more aggressive sound. But yea the TRD CAI definitely is not worth the $$.

So even though the numbers on the machine pass, if they visually inspect and suspect anything has been modified you can't pass? Seems silly! the TRD CAI removes the silencer...

Well my friend has a 2004 reg cab and removed the silencer and plugged the whole back. But yes the #'s were good but it didnt pass because the intake had been "altered". They might have just been havng a shitty day because i know mutiple others that have done this mod, so its really just hit or miss. It was a simple fix, all he did was pull the silencer out of the cab and put it back.... passed smog and then removed it right after in the parking lot.
