I too am going through this right now....today on the way home from work truck became sluggish and cel and trac off lights are on. Researching i came across a thread that one member went the bypass route through hewitt technologies. I am hoping it is covered under warranty. I am at 58k miles but depends on when the 5 years started. We will see, nevertheless a big THANK YOU for your time and experience. Excellent write up...How much did the replacement cost you?

You'll have a hard time getting it covered under warranty. The guys at the dealership here just told me flat out that it was only covered under the 3-year 36,000 mile warranty. Mine went out at 4.5 years and 30,000 miles. I paid $430 plus $20 shipping for my valves, and I replaced them in under an hour thanks to this thread.

Thats what i was wondering. I will have to wait until i hear from the dealership. Its not the end of the world if its not, i will just go this route. Thanks for your response. Everything all good with your truck now?

Yep, back to normal (same symptoms as you). I just try to let the air injection process finish before putting the truck in drive. I'm not sure if that was part of the issue, but I figured it couldn't hurt!
    Cheers,

Can there be any further damage while driving waiting on parts and getting it done? Or best to not drive it at all? My commute to work is only about 15 mins each way through town?

I'm no expert, but from what I understand there are reed valves in addition to the solenoid valves in this system to prevent (mostly) exhaust gases from going through the system backwards. I drove mine for a couple days with a similar commute, and my pump didn't show any signs of being touched by exhaust gases. Couldn't say if it could damage anything in a different way though.

Okay thank you. I am just wondering if the codes will show if it is the pump that is bad or the valves. I didn't see that the OP replaced the pump as well.

I believe this is the only thread where a lower cost nonTacoma assembly was used to correct the problem other than Hewitt's bypass

I used the OE Toyota parts to fix it...not sure what you're talking about the nonTacoma parts.

Still don't get it, the parts were all Tacoma parts. Same PNs in as came out.

Did the swap today myself. Took me about an hour and fifteen minutes. Would have been quicker but I didn't fully remove one of the nuts on the exhaust - duh... Thanks so much for the help with the parts.

I did everything with the 10mm and 12mm short sockets and used a 3" and 6" extension to help out - for anyone looking to make sure what to get. I didn't have any bolts shear off or anything like that.

Again - great help and would highly recommend.

Spent $493.34 - I had it sent next day air and also ordered 2 extra gaskets that were on the Toyota quote. Quote from Toyota was for $2000.

Hope others try this - it isn't very difficult.

2012 Tacoma V6 TRD 4x4 with 64k miles. CEL and Trac Off lights with codes P2440/P2442 and ECU in limp mode. I skipped the dealership and diagnostic after reading this thread. I put about 200 miles on the car in limp mode, no harm, just keep under 2300 rpm to avoid dumping gas. I Ordered parts (valve assembly $430 / 2 gaskets @ $1 each) and followed these fantastic directions to fully fix my problem in about 90 min and saved myself about $1500 bucks. Dealer quoted 2k to fix. If you have same symptoms, save yoursel some cash... thank you OP, great write up!!!!!
