2012 Tacoma TRD auto 4x4 33500 miles. I am not have problems yet, but I am wondering about the limp mode. Does it only come on after the first start-up? How many times can it be cleared, before it can't be cleared? Is it going to be better to replace it before it breaks with a improved part or buy the Hewitt bypass? I would really like to prevent being stranded. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

I carried my obd reader in the truck after I got limp mode the first time. Cleared the code at least 50 times before the parts came in for me to do the repair. Toyota only sells the same parts that are currently in your truck now so far there are no improved parts to buy. I would just carry a cheap obd reader in the truck so if you go into limp mode you can clear it and get to your destination.

I cleared several times as well, but CEL and Trac Off Lights / ECU Limp mode would go back on each time within 5 minutes each time.

Does the limp mode happen right after the first start-up, or can it happen anytime in the drive?

So you got p2440 and p2442 which is bank one and bank two and all you need to buy is the diverted valve which is the bottom piece of both those banks ? I got bank 1 and 2 and I'm still trying to understand if the diverter valve is both banks and all one piece ?

I believe that the whole assymbly is considered banks 1 and 2, like the forward is bank 1 and the aft valve is bank 2 (or vice versa)

Supposedly they "fixed" the issue on '13s and newer. Although the use of the same parts is confusing....

Is this part/issue exclusive to the 4.0?

See a lot of '12's mentioned. Does it not affect other year models?

Its really a straight forward install just make sure you have the tools the OP recommended and i would probably add a set of ratcheting wrenches and a universal joint. I was throwing codes P2440 and P2442 in the beginning and then just code P2441.

The link the OP posted is no longer active so here is an updated link with the P/N that I used: https://toyotaparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-diverter-valve-2571031022
I also purchased the gasket air tube: https://toyotaparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-gasket-air-tube-no-1737731010

I cleared the CEL and replaced the parts. and no problems since (did this over the weekend)
Hope this helps anyone else out in the future!

if I'm not mistaken thats part of the emissions control.they have to cover that for 10 years or 100,000 miles.the feds being on car companies butts lately.might be worth a try.

Another 2012 bites the dust... P2442 at 96,754 miles. Thank goodness for the UltraGauge I have so I can clear the code and get out of limp mode.

Is there a favorite place people have to order the replacement manifold and gaskets?

Between the LCA bushings/bolts not being factory lubricated and siezing up and this, I will have spent $1400 fixing Toyota's mistakes. Love my truck, but dang this is frustrating.

I am still working to get the photos back in the first posts, PhotoBucket are now not allowing me to get some of MY pictures from their site. And having 2 laptops and a desktop, I am having trouble remembering where I may have stored the files. Sorry to anyone that is looking to do this and could use the help of this thread, I am extremely pissed off at PB about this whole thing they started doing with requiring $400/year if you want to link photos you store on their site. It's not like I'm making money off trying to help people on forums :(
