This is an awesome write up, thanx for your time. Seeing as this is a carbon build up issue, could it just be cleaned and reinstalled? Don't really want to spend $500 on a repair job if I don't have to.

Any facts to back that up? Link to a thread or article perhaps?

Had my truck in last Thursday for code p2443, the dealership mechanic cleared the code and tried to replica with no luck, looked inside air pump which had no water inside. He said Toyota would not fix unless he seen water or code p2440-p2442( limp mode). He said it could have been some moisture that froze causing the code. The warranty extension is real 10 years or 150,000 miles from date of purchase. The warranty is called CSP2HA, I got that from Toyota customer service. 800-331-4331

I'm curious if anyone knows if replacing the foam filter with the UNI filter has prolonged the life of the valves???

Got the same thing. Too bad I already swapped it out myself and therefore don’t have all of the required documentation for it to be reimbursed. Anyone have any ideas/experience with reimbursement of self-repair items that get later added to a warranty? Would love Toyota to give me back my $324 that I gave them for this repair.

According to the paper work you will need a repair order or invoice showing the repairs and proof of payment. I am going through this right now as well and am not real confident on getting reimbursed for a part that i swapped myself. Toyota may frown upon DIYers and not honor a reimbursement for not going to a qualified Toyota technician.

My 2012 just went into limp mode 2 weeks prior to my extended warranty letter arriving in the mail. I had no idea Toyota was going to cover this problem. My brother in law is an auto mechanic. So, he put the Hewitt bypass on my truck and cleared the codes. Truck accelerates fine now and seems normal, but I am using a lot more gas than usual. Anyone who put on bypass have this problem too? Did talk with Toyota via phone and they will replace original parts put on by yourself as long as you provide receipt for parts and proof of payment for them (credit card statement, etc.) Just send it in with the list of other items required.

Well, since the above paragraph was written, the bypass has been removed and original parts restored. Drove about 1000 feet and all the warning lights (check engine & trac control) lit up again. So, now I can get this problem fixed under the new warranty at a dealership.

Toyota have issued a Customer Support Notification Program -ZHA. It indicates in the letter received that Toyota is providing coverage for repairs related to the Air Injection pumps and Air Switching Valves. The notification letter indicates that Primary Coverage is applicable until Feb. 28, 2019 no year / mileage limitation and secondary coverage is after the Primary coverage ends and is applicable for 10 years from the date of first use or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first. I did not have extended warranty coverage. There appears to be a process to get reimbursed if the repair has already been carried out. Not sure how that process would work if you carried out the repair yourself. Seems like Toyota expect you to take your vehicle to a vehicle repair business of some kind.

I picked my Taco up yesterday from the dealer after getting the air pump and valves replaced under the Customer Support notification discussed in my previous thread. Within 30 seconds the CEL came back on. The staff at the service dept. at the dealership scanned the code cancelled it, started and shut off the engine (and maybe took the vehicle behind the service bays and sacrificed a chicken under a full moon) but the CEL stayed off so I drove it home (5 miles). I thought I should check under the hood. The pipe from the pump to the valves was still disconnected, so if you get this work done make sure that all the required connections are back in place before leaving the dealership. I am going to take it for a longer drive today to make sure the CEL stays off. BTW it took about 5 days for the replacement as the parts have to be specially ordered apparently, so I was without a vehicle for most of a work week.

Well... my 2012 4.0 just spit out P2441 :( I called the local dealership and they're wanting to have the truck for a least two hours so they can troubleshoot the issue. I know this is covered under warranty, but i have a 1,500 mile trip next week and im thinking about canceling that trip now.

They may have to order parts, so I'm not sure if they'd be able to get it done this week. You should find out after they complete their diagnostics.

If it's in limp mode and they have to order parts. They should be giving you a loaner till it's repaired,After the repair your good to go.

Thanks for the awesome right up, I’ve been resetting codes to ensure I don’t hit limp mode since mine was built in August 2012 and they call it a 2013 after months of trying and them saying no, you don’t fall under the TSB, I saw your right up and decided to just do it. Thanks for the part number that really saved my bacon searching and searching for the best price and best vendor. My price was higher than your by about 30$ but that’s fine, much better than the stealership so thanks so much @nevenelestate your the man! I LOVE TW!!
