They're may be multiple factors. The deionizing filter replaces magnesium and calcium with sodium which can leave a film but doesn't scale like magnesium and calcium does. The sodium is more of dust that is easily removed. Horizontal surface are more difficult as well. The longer the water is pooled the longer it has the chance to capture dust pollen and other atmospheric contaminants. It is also more likely to leave sodium deposits behind as well since there is no run off or sheeting of water. I usually have my leaf blower handy for drying wheels, the tonneau cover and grill.

Sorry I didn't see before. You shouldn't need to charge the filter when it is new. I've done about 4 washes and it still seems to be functioning well. As far as recharging goes your exactly right.

You shouldnt. I just use that as a soap foamer. I will say that good PH balanced car wash soap makes a big difference. I have really good luck with Adam's wash and CG extreme wash and gloss. From my experience stay away from from the CG wash and wax and the meguires gold. They both seem to increase spotting.

The jet dry idea sounds interesting!? I'm curious if will have any negative effects on sealants or wax? I might have to try that out when I get around to washing my truck next!

Washed the wife's Camry and the truck today using my setup. It was starting to get water spots so I ended up drying it by hand. I don't know if it was the wax from last week or the filters, but the spots came up pretty easily with some quick detailer.
