Cool. Thanks. For some reason, I recall seeing that the cig charger outlet was a lower amp rating - I may have that wrong. But I assume you just tied in to the power from the old socket when you put the new one in?

do you guys have a usb outlet in your center console under the lid? I ran a 6' charging cable from there through the console and up through the dash and out to the dmm to my phone holder.

not a bad idea but I prefer playing music directly off my phone but that would require using bluetooth instead

It was super easy - head unit is four 10mm bolts - slides right out abs lots of room to get your hand behind it to fish for wires.

I just used the one in the front of the dash because it works with CarPlay.

So out of curiosity - why is the cig socket so much lower in amperage - I would assume that since you use the same power wires, the same limitation would be there? Or is there something about the socket itself that's the limiting factor?

Yea it is true!! but that is the one that I had in hand. I will replace it, however, once I find some time to work on it. I want a quick charge for sure.

    Ah - okay - so 2.5 isn't really 2.5.

2019 spiced up Taco with guac, no onions.
Dashtop Multi-Mount!, Pro grille, snug top, Kings BFGs, Front and rear view camera anytime, CMC, prinsu and more to come!
This is what I did on my truck as well for power up top,
The standard USB is on the same module as the AUX jack so I connected both and routed them up to the top where they are always connected to my DMM mounted ipad

looks like you did a lot of research on this! I’m on the same page with you about having access to CarPlay and allowing someone else to plug into it if they wanted. Wondering if you saw any other options? I might take your lead on doing similar mod

I’m sure there are other options out there....this one felt like the best route to me. The DMM and Ram mounts are really solid and I’ve had zero issues since I did the install.
