this is still subject to commercial license plate numbering scheme correct?
(we pay a commercial vehicle weight fee and get a commercial vehicle license plate in CA). Do we get a new number or the current plate number is used?

I just viewed the application form pdf. so for tacomas, we check "commercial" right?

yes you would check commercial and you could use the same number sequence you already own or you could chose to custom your plate

so after paying $50. It will be another $40 on top of what I am paying now correct?

I mostly see the 70's color plates around, I rarely see or actually do not recall seeing 50's or 60's plates around (I supposed most vintage cars will be sitting in garage). I have magnetic gray with chrome rear bumper and can't decide which color will look best.

this is not going to be a limited issue or anything like that right?

    YES $50 + $40

Its not limited to how many they will make as long as the plate you want gets 7500 preoders they will implement the program for that year plate only, by the looks of what the people want the 60's is the only plate that will be available, that color would look good on your magnectic grey truck.

CA already takes way too much of my money to give them more. We already lay twice as much for our truck registration as a car does, thanks CA.

it's not like CA is forcing you to get one.
you can add a camper shell to the truck bed and change the registration to non commercial to save $80 a year. the only difference in how registration is calculated for a tacoma vs a car is the additional $80 weight fee. so I wouldn't say it is twice as much.
