I like the idea, might have to jump on this. Those 60's ones look awesome.

As a New Yorker, I find this idea pretty cool. Choice is good...I only wish NY would go back to liberty plates.

I do construction and ride dirt bikes, a camper shell is not an option. I love CA but our government is horrible.

    Wow. Awesome!!!

I want the Blue/Gold plates, myself. How close are the numbers for that one? If I read the OP right, 7.5K orders for any one of the three will result in all three becoming available, did I get that right?

Only the plate or plates that reach 7,500 orders before January 1, 2015 will be implemented.

I don't know about others, but considering the amount of income tax I pay, $80 ($24 for 1st Gen Tacoma) weight fee is a drop in the bucket to be willing to give up using a "commercial" truck. The $40 renewal fee is no different that any other vanity plates from DMV. I'm sure we all blow away more money on more useless things than dmv fee.

Simply complaining about it won't change anything. Unfortunately, there are more people who just sit and complain and not do anything.

Hey guys, Im finally getting around to this. I need some helping figuring this out because I need to renew my registration. Is there a way I can do both the renewal and the plates at the same time? Or do I need to renew first, then send in the form and $ after? What does the $40 renewal fee go toward?

Sorry for being dumb about it all lol

Hey you can do both at the same time but you'll probably get your tags sooner than your plates. Sorry MJ it's late I'll look into it tomorow

I saw that they processed my check on Nov. 19. I went into the DMV today to check the status and they gave me a number to call. After speaking to customer service, I found out that I should expect them in April/May :( Didn't think it was going to take thaaaaat long

Btw, only the black 1960s one met the minimum. If anyone ordered a 1950s or 1970s, you're suppose to get a refund this month

That's good news, they have started making them. They processed my check on 12/28/12, YES 2012. I wonder if they are making them in one big batch or in the order they were received? The funny thing is I ordered 2 personal plates for my off-road trailer and truck and they are at DMV now, took 8 weeks. I have an appointment on the 18th to pick them up, it would be nice if my legacy plate is in, it took 3 weeks to get an appointment our DMV is a 3 hour wait without one. Thank you AB60

I received a notice from DMV today that said my plates will be here in 6 to 8 weeks. :fingerscrossed:

Dammnit I didn't get a notice yet. When did you submit your app?

This whole thing is kinda frustrating. It's taking a whole lot longer than they said it would.
