Now you really sound like you are grasping at straws. First you implied by unplugging the wire you are in turn unplugging the airbag as well ( even though this is wrong because the airbag runs through a system check on startup). Since that didnt hold water and you got called out on it , you are now saying the airbag wont deploy because you believe that since the wire is unplugged for the chime the system will in turn telli the airbag that the belts are not fastened so it shouldn't deploy. Which one is it?

Because in high speed bike accidents a head injury isn't what is likely going to kill you. I think people put way too much weight on helmets and don't remember that the other 95% of your body is exposed lol. When you fly off a bike at 40mph and wail into a car, great your head is fine but that matters very little when you are bleeding to death internally.
People who ride motorcycles are usually not concerned about safety anyways haha or they wouldn't be riding them. At least that comes from me, a person way too pussy to ride a motorcycle.

    Depends on your state.

MA has seatbelt and helmet laws.

I feel seatbelts should be a choice, and choose to wear mine. I don't force others to, except if I have my sister's kids in the vehicle..or my father in law when he was alive, in large part because I didn't want him trying to get out of my truck

Yeah I gave up bikes a few years ago. I had a choice between a car headon in my lane or the nice soft grassy ditch. Did the ditch, fucker didn't even stop, totaled the bike, walked home, credited my helmet with saving me a trip to the hospital. It was scratched from the middle of the face shield all the way around to the back! That would have been chunks-o-flesh, teeth, maybe a ear, who knows! Insurance gave me full value on the bike and the helmet. Took it as a warning. Cars don't see bikes!

From what I understand, most bike accidents are the cars fault. I have some friends that drive Harley's. They have the big loud exhaust which I freaking hate, but they explained to me that it ensures cars around you hear you and hopefully that makes the more aware.

My cousin took me out on a bike a couple years ago. All I could think about was falling off and being skinned by the pavement. We didn't make it down the street before I was done haha. I'll leave that activity for someone else.

I've always wanted a bike but I'll never get one. Reasons like what you both mentioned.

I must say those bikes who ride between lanes I have zero sympathy for. I will share the road with anything on wheels but we all play by the same rules. I nearly killed someone on a bike 10 yrs ago due to his excessive speeding and refusal to use a turn signal for a lane change or acknowledge my signal and that I was half in the lane when he chose to do so.

People that do not hunt and drive ranch roads just do not understand. There is not law that says you have to wear a seatbelt on private property but more important the speeds are low. A animal is not going to stand around while you try to unbuckle a seat belt also it is a pain in the ass when you are in and out of the vehicle a lot. I always wear mine on public roads with the only exception being now and then after closing the last gate I forget that it is fastened behind me to stop the annoying beep and I just decide to wait for the first stop sign to put it around me.

Makes sense to me. I think in that case the extender is a good remedy for the beep and light both.

Yep, loud pipes save lives! That's why when I had my crotch rocket, I cruised around 5k rpms (redlined at 16k). Kept it loud and it was peppy, so if I had to I could be out of a hairy situation with a quick flick of the wrist.

I miss the shit out of my bike every day, but I know selling it was the smart thing to do.

My statement is/was based on this from the Tacoma Service manual:

" The dual–stage SRS airbag system has been used for the driver and front passenger airbags. This system controls the optimal airbag inflation by judging the extent of impact, seat position (driver seat), whether or not the seat belt is fastened (driver seat) and information from the front passenger occupant classification system."

Granted I did not look at the electrical schematics... If the plug for the beeping is separate from the sensor that detects that the seat belt is fastened for the air bag system I could be wrong.

That being said, the seat belt is tied into the air bag system as one part of the deployment equation.

I never implied that at all. You made that part up yourself. What I said was it disables the air bag. Looking back I should have said that it may disable the air bag depending on how the system checks. The seat belt is part of the deployment equation as per the service manual.

That is what Toyota says in Their Service Manual. " whether or not the seat belt ( drivers seat ) is fastened ". The question is where is the signal coming from for the SRS system.

The SRS Air Bag System will pass the self-test with the seat belt unplugged. The seat belt is not part of the SRS Air Bag Systems Test. Your statement " ( even though this is wrong because the airbag runs through a system check on startup)." is not relevant to the subject at all.

You seem to have a need to push against anyone that has a different opinion than you. I really do not care if you want to unplug all the safety features of your truck and drive around. Go for it. I will look closer at the schematics just for my own benefit.

I did assume that they were using the same switch for both the beeper and the SRS System input. Maybe they do and maybe they don't. Further digging needed...

I know a lot of you guys are going to Poo Poo on this anyway and do whatever you want. That is fine, it is your truck and your life. There are other safety implications and possibilities if the truck "thinks" that the seat belts are fastened all the time, but they are not. Even in a low speed collision, say dropping off into a ditch or rut, hitting a tree just right etc could cause the air bag to deploy because the system "thinks" the seat belt is fastened. This is dangerous as your body going forward into the airbag and the airbag blowing out has in fact killed people. It is an explosive device after all.

My opinion is to have some knowledge before you go and start unplugging things.

    Now, Flame away.

No flame here. I see easier ways to deal with it, such as $10 on the part someone mentioned. Or to just use it, which I do, but as I said earlier I feel it should be a choice.
