This is why dealers should disable the chime if the customer requests it.

Appreciate you taking the time to find the schematic. I'm a newb when it comes to electrical. So unplugging to disable the chime, does it affect the airbag?

Well I will say this. I cannot say for sure that it will positively. But I have been involved with programming and electronics since the late 1970's. I don't know specifically, but I am only saying to make an informed decision and not just unplug something and hope for the best.

It would not make any sense to have the airbags deploy with the seat belt in an unknown or unbuckled condition in light of the dangers involved with the explosive force of the airbag ( people have been killed when working on air bags when they are too close when it goes off ). As Toyota plainly states in their service manual that the seat belt being buckled or not determines if/how it is deployed.

" The dual–stage SRS airbag system has been used for the driver and front passenger airbags. This system controls the optimal airbag inflation by judging the extent of impact, seat position (driver seat), whether or not the seat belt is fastened (driver seat) and information from the front passenger occupant classification system."

As far as I know there is only one switch in the seat buckle that could signal that the seat belt is fastened. The schematics clearly show a seat belt input into the Air Bag Sensor System.

Lets say you get into a minor crash with the seat belt unplugged, but the system thinks that it is buckled and the airbag goes off. You are looking at some possible serious injuries or even death.

Or you have it unplugged and the seat belt in this condition disables the Air Bag as I feel is true. You get into a crash and the Air Bag doesn't deploy and now your face smashes into the steering wheel or snaps your neck.

So either way you have defeated the safety of the vehicles systems an placed a bigger risk of injury on yourself or in the event you loan your truck to say your wife or another relative. What are the implications.... That is a decision you will have to make for yourself. I know what I would choose, the rest is up to you. Seat Belts and Air Bags have saved probably millions of lives since they were adopted.

I wish you all the best. Sorry about my ranting.

I am just trying to look after my friends.

The airbag system will work with the driver seatbelt buckled or unbuckled. But the way the airbag is fired is different (timing for each stage during a crash event, or even trigger decisions). If you don't want to wear the seatbelt, disable the chime only, don't trick the airbag system.

I'll just say I have serious doubts that the system will allow the drivers air bag to deploy with the seat belt unbuckled. That is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

The airbag deploys to keep your head from smashing into the dash, and prevent your neck from hyperextending forward as the airbag limits your heads travel. Not sure what difference there is between having a seat belt fastened or not. We're not talking about infants with tiny heads and super thin necks getting killed by impact force from the airbag.

I'm sure a failure of the airbag to operate would result in a lawsuit a lot quicker than operation without a seatbelt.

But maybe some people around here also have tiny heads and super thin necks lol.

On the contrary. Auto manufacturers conduct crash tests to proof that the airbag system operates even if the driver does not wear a seatbelt. FMVSS 208, I believe it's a 25mph front crash unbelted against a deformable barrier. Could be a little off on the details (it has been some time since I worked in that field) but there is definitely an unbelted test for new vehicle signoff, and has been since at least the mid 90ies.

If an airbag sensor system detects no seatbelt and a crash, it will fire based on the unbelted occupant calibration, meaning very aggressively (both stages) and pretty early in the crash since the airbag has to hold the entire weight of the occupant's body. If the system thinks the occupant is wearing the belt, it will fire based on a different protocol that is designed to work in conjunction with the seatbelt to slow down the occupant as "gently" as possible.

If you trick the system into thinking you are wearing a seatbelt just to turn off the annoying chime, and you get into an accident, the airbag will fire "gently" based on the belt protocol and chances are you will go right through the airbag and hit the wheel/dash pretty hard.

    Found this for a 2006: 25mph unbelted.
