Do we have hill start assist? Been wondering this since i got my truck 25000 miles ago. Dealers cannot confirm or deny, heard autos do. Mine either works 50% of the time or i have sticking brakes. Lately been acting up on flat ground and caused me to stall backing into parking spots. Trd sport if that makes a difference.

I have an offroad if that makes a difference but I will slide back down a hill all day if I'm have the clutch in on a hill. Use the E brake for really steep hills if you need some sort of "hill start assist"

So yours wont hold you even for a moment? K ow the or and sport have different brake boost systems but mine really feels like you let off the brake and it will hold for 1 or 2 sec until you start going or it will release and you roll back. But doesnt always do that. And lately been holding the brake when i go to back into a spot on flat ground.

I have a Sport Access Cab 6MT. It will hold you in neutral for 3-4 seconds or until you touch the gas pedal.

MT sport models have the assist but no rear locker, and the OR's have a rear locker but no assist.

Aha. Thanks for that. Wonder if local dealer can fix what they dont know exists? Guess we will see next oil change

Edit: is that the lamest difference between the trucks? Like somewhere someone had to say well people that drive sports need this and people with an OR just need a locker. :anonymous:

I'm looking at the literature and it's showing manual with electronic boost controller (A-Trac) has hill-start assist.

FFS I tried using the manual. The spec sheets say auto only, the Toyota lit shows A-Trac with hill start, even stating operating conditions.

I am wrong, it's Auto only. Sorry everyone :)

Yep. People already setting things straight in here but OR and Pro MTs do not have hill start assist. Neither do AT ORs or Pros in the traditional sense. The brake booster being the critical difference.

I just can't get my head around why an auto would have it but not the manual.

At least the manual has a proper hand brake now.

Its not an auto vs manual thing. The brake booster system throws a wrench in to things. How exactly I'm not sure but MT Jeep Wranglers have the traditional hill start assist. As do Sport model Tacomas for that matter.

From the reading I did, both the manual and auto hill start uses front and rear brake pressure to hold the truck in place for 5 seconds.

Older systems on other models used the rear ebrake cable to do this.

It may have to do the most with offroading, but it disables when in 4lo or atrac mode on all models.

Personally I like hillstart assist in the city, but if I have a proper handbrake like the 3rd gens do, I don't need it regardless of how steep the grade is.
