I'd love to get rid of my drivers seat for a 4runner adjustable seat. Has anyone tried this or looked into it at all?

No prob. The search thing on here is tricky sometimes but since I knew it was in our forum it was a little easier to find. Best of luck man! Let us know if u do the conversion!

I was hoping there was a little more information on it, I don't know if I am up to being the experiment lol. I'm bad at wiring so it would have to be pretty close to plug and play for me to feel comfortable with it.

Totally understand that. If u don’t end up doing it, I’m sure someone will eventually. I wouldn’t try it, but lots of people r cool with that kind of stuff. Mine is still too new for me to balls up and do something like that!

Best bet would be to find a friend that has a 4runner and try it.

I happen to own one lol, I guess I should undo the front seat and see. I guess I SHOULD be the experimenter.

My only thing is, I'm pretty sure I'd have to find wiring for the power seats, which is what I really want out of them. So I'd have to order a harness then find a way to hook it all up.

One caution to ask about. You might want to find out if you can remove your seats and reinstall them without getting an airbag light? Our old saab had the seat fixed from a collision. After the harness was disconnected, there was a light on the dash that could only be reset at the dealer.

Toyotas are probably different, but it might be good to ask before you disconnect them?

You just unhook the battery for 15 minutes before you disconnect them. I've gutted both the 4runner and taco to soundproof. But thanks for the heads up, it could really mess someone up!

Never had this problem on my 2nd gen. And the guys that had their seat foam customized by upholstery shops haven’t but made mention of it. Best bet is simply undo the neg terminal (like should be done with any electrical modification), and then swap the seats if their is concern.

I’ve put in FRS seats and the airbag light never gave me issues.

Not sure if the airbag connector for the Tacoma vs 4Runner is the same. I’d imagine it should be but for example my Tacoma connector didn’t match the FRS seats I put in. Was slightly different. So I had to depin them both and swap. Same goes for all the seat buckle setup. Connectors for that may be slightly different and you may end up having to retain a large amount of the Tacoma wiring and transfer it to the 4Runner seat. Hopefully not though.

I think you are right about the connections being different. I am going to just unhook the front posts and tip the seat back to check it out a little bit closer before I go crazy. I don't want to switch out the wiring etc... I don't trust myself to do it, and don't really want to pay someone either.

Even if they are different it isn’t too difficult. At least for the 2nd gen, depinning the connector was as simple as removing a retention tab with needle nose pliers and then using a small pin/jewelry screwdriver tip to release the retention clips on each pin. And boom they come right out.

Rest of all the harness crap was just a matter of unclipping from Tacoma seat and reclining underneath swapped seat/bolting seatbelt receptacle to side of seat.

The only other part that is annoying is the “Seat position sensor” on the driver seat. I’m imagining this may or may not be a a simple plug n play. Given the 4runner’s May be setup a little different.

I still need a power seat harness that connects somewhere, I want to be able to move the seat lower than the stock position for a better view, and adjust it a little more than is allowed in the taco.

Yeah that will be the trickier part. Or getting your hands on a 4Runner wiring diagram to see what’s what.

That’s why I went with a different seat as the one I put in had manual height adjustment.

    Excellent.

Disconnecting the battery is SMRT. :D

I was just talking about the truck not being happy with the airbag harness being disconnected. It sounds like it is no issue at all. Good stuff.

I took 4Runner seats and they were a direct bolt up into my 91 Toyota pick up.

Swapped out the truck bench for a bucket seats. Everything bolted right up....

    So there's that

I looked into it but only because consumer reports mentioned it as a bad thing not to have and all the complaining that is made about it.
However, in reality, I don't need to adjust my seat up & down all the time, I adjust my seat back or slide back now & then on long trips and that's it.

But when I did look into it, it meant dealing with air bags that would have to be compatible with the electronics, and electric wiring, fuses and all for what in my case??

But that's just me, I'm more concerned with the driver's side door handle that they took away and I'd like to get that back

Yeah, if I have to change all the electronics out it wouldn't make sense for me I don't think money wise. I'll have to look a little more into it.
