do air bags give a rough ride?

I have a 3rd gen tacoma with stock suspension and air bags. On the road everything is fine. Off road the rear is SOOOO harsh. It feels like I'm basically riding on bumps. No really but getting close.

I've tried adjusting the pressure from 5 to 20psi, and there is no difference. My shocks, bushings, etc. all seem fine. Is this expected behavior when using air bags?

 

I had Air Lift bags on my 21 Off-road. Had to take them off because the ride was extremely rough - to the point of pain going over even the smallest bump in the road.

 

How much did that run you? I'm in the same situation with my 18' Pro.

I've spent hours trying to sort out the rough ride, if its just a matter of pulling those airbags out I will do so.

 

I've got the Firestone bags - they work fine. Last two trucks had them as well. The Toyota "quarter ton" springs sucked big time and had no load capacity. Running light with bags - 5 pounds pressure is fine - full of tool box and other equipment, easily adjusted upward. Trucks don't typically ride as fine as passenger cars and to get capacity, tire sizes and pressures are raised accordingly. It sucks to take your truck somewhere to pick up a load - and find you've got the tire pressure down in the "rides nice" zone.

 

Didn’t matter how much air I tried (0 psi to max psi), ride was terrible on my truck. Pulled the bags off and threw them in the attic. My back has thanked me ever since. I’ve got a F350 for pulling / hauling (rides way nicer than my Tacoma- both trucks empty). Tacoma is just for fun and (relatively) better MPG for daily commute.

 

Any of you have dayatar cradles?

 

I had them. They reduce up travel so much that they are worthless.
