    I think it would be wrong to assume that aliens do not exist. In a universe with billions and billions of galaxies with billions and billions of planets it is bound to happen. All those tv shows like stargate, star trek cover this really nicely. In many ways they explain why aliens would or would not want to engage with us. Take star trek for example. Entire premise of the show (especially next generation version) is based on allowing planets to evolve to a certain technological state. Likewise on stargate they cover negative impacts of what have happened when advanced races gave technology to lesser advanced ones who used them for warfare of to blow themselves up by accident.

    When it is all said and done.. a bit of science fiction may very well be based on quite a lot of science fact.

    I forget where I read it, but I remember hearing about some principle stating the universe is impossible to predict its size, because as light is still traveling to us from the ends of the universe. We can only see out as far as the light has traveled. Meaning as time progresses we can see more and more because light from farther and farther reaches us.

    Seeing as how they have 2nd Gens, i think it would be wrong to assume that they haven't performed the rear leaf tsb....they have to hauling quite a load of supplies as they jump through hyper space at the speed of light !!

Hard to explain but think about everything.......why is it the way it is? Look at us for example. Why do we have teeth? to chew food? who decided we needed teeth? who decided we needed a heart to pump blood? eyes to see? where did these decisions happen? where does space end? where is space ACTUALLY at?
